canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

No i haven't made a new harness yet... I will be starting fresh today took a couple day break on it so ill be re testing every thing. And the picture is of the're new fuel pump relay they had made i took it out and hooked stock mfi/mpi relay back up and mine is the 2 in one relay car is the early 95...

I just picked up a 95 FWD turbo Talon from a kid that has been sitting for months. At this point i know the kid really has no idea what has been done or attempted to be done with this car.

When you turn the key to run you can see the dash come on and the fans kick on .With the clutch depressed I try to start it and there is absolutely no sound coming out of the car at all ..

Ive been researching the hell out of this to try and figure out what it could be and Im starting to pull my hair out ..I know with it sitting the car was bone dry. I put 5 gallons of gas into the tank , drained and replaced coolant and fresh oil.

I have new battery terminals , new battery, new starter, new spark plugs , new spark plug wires.

When you try to turn the car over you can here the starter relay clicking, I unplugged the the clutch safety switch , and completely removed it from the car.

They tried to install a greddy turbo timer which i havent tried to do in a long time , im pretty sure it needs to be spliced or connected into the ignition wiring.(If im not correct please correct) And now with a new battery the turbo timer does not work Im assuming that it was wired wrong or i can move the ground. But I dont know if wiring in a turbo timer would cause the car not to start if wired incorrectly.

Me and a few friends tried to roll start it for 2 hours. At the end of the two hours it finally started making a few popping sounds out of the exhaust, and i heard the motor click once or twice.

I also jacked the car up checked and rotated the crank by hand the motor is not seized. I also removed timing covers and checked the belt , belt is fine.

I read a article the other day about the car could be in complete ignition kill, and they claimed it could be Anti-Theft Deterrent from the ECU and to close all doors and turn the key both directions 3-4 times and it should be good..That did nothing ...

I have not yet tried to check the fuses under the hood as i am going to do that today nor have i check to see if fuel is getting pumped to the rail. I would like some suggestions or help to anyone who has had this problem. I also have not checked the ignition switch in the steering column.

Lastly, when i got the car the kid tried to wire a direct switch to the solenoid on the starter, claimed you could turn the key on and hold the switch and the after a few seconds the car would start, However when i did it the motor spun and sounded like an RC car but didnt engage anything , I had the starter bench tested and found out it was bad put the brand new starter in it hooked his switch back up and did the exact same thing, so i removed the switch completely and hooked the cars original cable back up to it now it does no sound once again.

PLEASE HELP!!

So the car had clutch issues an we got that fixed the clutch just broke in at 581 an now after I got home from school yesterday I parked the car ran in side got money to get her washed an it wouldn't start I checked the relay for starter an when I twist the key u hear it click as well as the fuel pump ...but that's it nothing else only little click an fuel pump... I don't know what it is can any one help or have any ideas as to what it could be... U can start with a push just can't use the key

Seriously they just stop working like that? No chance it could just be solenoid

Can anyone give very detailed explanation on where the starter is or how to get to it I've removed battery an still can't find it also I've looked everywhere they say to look an still can't find it

I have a 1990 eagle talon awd and I recently pulled the head off to replace the head gasket and I put in Brian Crower 272 cams while it was off. I put it all back together and now it does not want to start. It is getting both spark and fuel, I pulled off the fuel rail and all injectors and firing and I pulled all the plugs and they are all sparking. I checked the coolant temp sensor thru dsmlink and it is ready fine. I have double and triple checked timing and it is spot on. I have double checked the spark plug wires and they are all in the correct location. I put the motor to TDC and pulled the CAS and that is lined up properly too and is not flipped 180 degrees. I have checked all fuses and they are all good as well. The only thing i have not done is a compression test but the car ran fine before I pulled the head so I don't think compression is bad. I am running out of ideas and any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I planned on checking the compression but I ran out of time today. I will try to do that tomorrow. The only other thing I could think that i happened to see in that link you posted is that the gas went bad. I tore it apart back in about early january and havent been working on it too much because of the cold and I have never had gas go bad that quick but I guess its possible. I am willing to try about anything at this point.

As said check compression, since you had the head off I would check to make sure you have everything plugged in. Ive done stupid stuff like that before where I have somthing all apart and forget to plug somthing stupid in like the cts or somthing of that nature. Cant hurt to double check.

Yea i will be sure to double check all connections again but i have already double checked about 10 times LOL. I will try to get another set of eyes because I may just be over looking something

Hi guys i have a 1991 Plymouth laser rs turbo 5 speed, some of the things that were done to it 1. fuel pump rewire 2. walbro 255lph an that's all, i replaced the fuel filter also. just very confused it will start with starting fluid but wont stay running, i hear the pump when i am cranking fuel comes out of the filter but if i take the return line off on my fuel pressure regulator wouldn't there be fuel coming out ? sometimes it will sputter when i am cranking it sounds to me like a fuel pressure issue? I have been reading an reading the past two weeks in search of an answer but maybe I am looking in the wrong spots, I apologize for the crappy grammar not too good at English LOL thanks guys any help is very appreciated its my daily driver to class an rides are difficult to find every day.
:aha::aha::confused:

was the car running prior to the fuel pump/ filter change?
and in case you don't know with a 255 you need an afpr (adjustable fuel pressure regulator)

have you checked to see if you are getting spark?
starting fluid = ether, not good to continuously use

No, but it was just a bad relay on the rewire but i went along an changed out the pump because it came with the car. But I ordered a new fuel pressure regulator adjustable with gauge. Although i have a thought I snapped the hard line coming out of the sending unit so i replaced about 6 inches of it with rubber fuel line about twice the size of the hard line could that ultimately ruin my fuel pressure it will sputter all day. An yes i do have good spark, No more ether by the way ha.

so I'm assuming that you bought the car non-running? or did it run when you bought it?
check the mpi fuse and also the intake/throttle body pipes must all be hooked up in order for your car to measure the amount of air that is coming in.

No the bigger hose wont do anything to fuel pressure unless its leaking...

"An yes i do have good spark, No more ether by the way ha."
:aha::hmm: ?????? what?????

If your running a 255 without an adjustable fpr then dont expect the car to run good... Are your injectors spraying? did you check and see if ## getting fuel or did you just try to start the car?

I apologize i meant starting fluid but yes i bought it running just needed a clutch, but i still was able to drive the car home, then the day after i replaced the clutch I was having trouble starting the car in the cold which I came to realize somewhere along replacing the clutch I was clumsy an ripped the wires for my coolant temperature sensor and also the switch so that was my cold start issue, eventually just quit starting discovered that my relay on the rewire was corroded all to hell so I replaced all my wires an relay an figured to go ahead an put my walbro 255 in, car work an ran great after I did that no loss of power, hesitations nothing it was awesome. So i drove it to class the next day no issues starting, drove to lunch still now issues , then after class I drove to my apartments an a buddy asked me to take him for a ride, I went up an down the highway roughly 3 mile round trip and I came back parked it let it run popped the hook because he was curious an we were talking for a couple minutes then just shut off as if someone turned the key off wouldn't start since? my lines are not blocked just checked today new filter also could the fuel pressure regulator cause this ? Also I was aware I needed an adjustable fpr, I ordered one a couple days ago it might be here tomorrow, also yes my injectors are clicking but could all of them be bad or clogged, an I am also getting fuel from the line off from the fuel pump coming out of the tank its definitely pumping fuel an I get fuel to the rail have no idea on a fuel pressure yet.

get injectors cleaned, and check the wiring for them. Do a compression test too.
