canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

My car 95 TSi FWD 5spd
ECU was rebuilt all new caps, and socket service done for link.
Car sat for 5 years
I removed all old gas
Put new gas in 93 oct
New fuel filter
New Walbro 255
Brand new never ran 7 bolt engine
6 bolt green top CAS
Fantastic Spark in all 4
New plugs
Compression check was 170-170-165-170
All the injectors were cleaned out and test flowed stock 450's

Car cranks over super smooth, sounds like its starting but still cranking if you get my drift. I have double and triple checked the timing so many times. Also I have changed the 4 pins on the ecu RRE requires to invert the signal.

Im still trying to use the stock FPR. the gas is in the rail, but not coming out the FPR, is that normal with the ignition on and turning car over

just replaced my PTU, and still same thing. Cranks and studders like it wants to run, but dont start

The only way there would not be fuel coming out of the fpr is if the pump was not strong enough to reach pressure. I would check your fuel pump although some members would say not to i would take the pipe of by the throttle body dump a little gas in and see if it starts if it does you have a bad fuel pump or fuse wire ect.
make sure the new fuel pump is seated correctly your presure may never be leaving the tank if its not.

i would be curious of the fuel pressure.... did you rewire the pump? or relay? also did you try and switch the plugs around?

Pop the feed line off before the rail. Put it in a container and see if fuel comes out when u crank the car. It should flow quickly and that will verify if u actually have fuel being delivered. If u don't then you either have a wiring issue with the pump of a bad pump (unlikely). If u do have good fuel flow, then u need to check the pressure.

If u have low pressure revert back to checking the pump and/or the regulator. If adequate pressure is there, then u have an injector problem. Either a bad connection/pigtail or cam sensor issue. Possibly mpi relay. Ect.

I dont know how to double check the actual fuel pressure. Im still using the stock FPR until I get a job and buy AFPR. Also the new 255 pump is working. I changed out the PTU, and now I think I lost my spark. Its one thing after another after another.

Ok so my rocker arms on my exaughst side touch at all times. But my intake side theres like a half inch gap untill the lobe goes all the way around. I am trying to figure it out the timing is off but barley i put new lifters in it could my timing cause that big of a gap?

To check pressure without an adjustable regulator you need an adapter that bolts to the fuel rail. Check the parts store. You can rent one and they might have an adapter that will work. And as far as no spark, check your coil. And double check your wiring at the ecu.

Fuel, air, spark, timing, compression. That's all you need. Once you verify all these you should have a running car. If not something isn't receive signal, hence a possible wiring issue.

RRE requires you to not only switch ecu pin outs but also the spark plug wires have to be inverted. Or just switch the blue wires on your coil pack. Have you done that? The better method is switching the coil pack blue wires. You didn't state that you did that, that's just why I suggest it. But sometimes the fuel pump filter can restrict fuel delivery if it isn't set in properly. If fuel doesn't flow quickly out of the fuel line. Something is clogged. Luckily you know its from the pump to the rail. When changing the fuel filter did you make sure the fittings were 99% clean? fuel pump rewire doesn't matter at start up and idle I ran my Walbro 255 on 8 psi for 2 months. Until I rewired it. Point being you should be able to at lest start your car without rewiring your fuel pump. But it should get done sooner then later.

The cas is sending signal to the injectors and working. However, Im still getting no fuel out of the FPR. I blew air through all the gas lines from tank to engine bay , and from the rail to the filter (with hose off car). The only line I didnt blow through was the line on the bottom of the filter to the tank.

Im still getting great spark, the car is trying to fire (it studders randomly), the timing is still dead on, and re-checked my compression (170-170-166-170)

I bought the car with a shot motor, it was sitting the whole time. I am rebirthing it to life, fully rebuilt motor and everything else BRAND NEW

Ok I also been helping trying to figure the issue out. He has a missing relay/sensor under the radio. its the g sensor. would that cause a no start? maybe triggering it to think the airbags deployed?

here the part number

mb875678

also these numbers are on it

x2t21171
4914

No its not a flasher. Its a g sensor. but I was wrong for the airbags. I guess its for the abs I believe

Hey guys, once again I am posting about this 420A. We got it out changed all the gaskets and seals and what not put the motor back in and were getting nothing at all. It just turns over and thats it. Ive checked the cam and crank rechecked them and then checked them again I am out of ideas all the wire and vacuum lines are right I just dont get it.... Any ideas out there?

did you make sure that the big plug underneath the throttle body is plug in?

I've went over the wire what seems like 100 times now everything is pluged in where it should be.

have you checked to see if your getting fuel, spark, and all that? have you done a compression test?

I know its not getting spark at all.. Fuel Im not to sure it seems like it is and no to the compression test. The motor ran fine all I did was put it in a different car...

Just curious did you plug in the coil or could the coil have gone bad. not trying to make you sound like an idiot but i did something similar when i had to replace my head. i forgot to plug in my MAF and couldnt figure out why my car was running like crap.
