Sport Compact Car finally shows love to a DSM!

Well i have been subscribing to SCC magazine for quite a while now, but looking forward to the end of my subscription. Anyways, i get my latest issue on saturday and much to my suprize there is a 2g GSX in there. Its kinda ricey but hey the guys setup is decent. Anyways, check it out. I would post pictures but i dont have access to a scanner.

Yeah, last year there was 2-3 dsms in the shootout they have, the silver one won 2nd place, to the slower 350z, go figure 350hp car wins over a 700hp+ car

the 350z has many things on the dsm. Not going to say they are better but we still have mcpherson struts....

The DSMs have become much much more popular as people have started hooking the 4g63 to better and bigger turbos. We are basically at the point now where we are capable of making as much hp as the mustangs in fast fords.

What the DSM community needs to do is figure out how to strip the cars down to 2k lbs and keep a good look .

I always had read SCC for its good articles, DSM or non-DSM related. The others are just full of eye candy, and Im not talking about fixed up cars.

I also read Modified Magazine sice there are always DSMs somewhere in there.

are you joking, that gsx was really disappointing. running a 16g, venting bov, half assed interior, "custom blitz kit", stock rubber intake tube, i was extatic when i flipped the page and saw the pic of the front mount staring at me, and then the further i read into the article the more i see its the typical eclipse, modded by a shop and wounded by a stupid owner

Go buy a sequential tranny for your car and see how much money you are left with. There is also an article on RRE's website that describes just how important it is to select the right parts for your car and making them work well together. Granted, yes some of those mods are pretty mundane, but with a shop as reputable as RRE then I would think that they have selected a group of mods that complement each other at this stage of the owners pocketbook limit. Again, call up "insert your favorite vendor here" and see how much their sequential tranny is for your car.

I wish magazines gave more love to the "sleeper" looking cars. The cars that look mostly stock on the outside except for some nice wheels and a lower stance. Why does it always have to be a DSM with an aluminum wing and body kit that gets published? Half the money spent on that car probably went towards cosmetics... okay, so I might be exaggerating. I'm all for a car looking good, but honestly, that's the one thing the domestic mags have over SCC and the others - they feature clean cars most of the time, and flashy cars every once in a while. The import mags still have it backwards. Maybe 1 in every 10 DSMs that get published in mags will look like anything we have printed in the DSMtuners calendars. They still just don't get it. Oh well, I guess that's what happens when DSMs are published in magazines that have been drooling over Hondas for the past 10 years.

What? Heavens, no. One of the things DSMs have over so many other sporty cars is that it has real links in the suspension, not Fearsome struts. There's more to them than just concentric shocks and springs. Not that they're exactly queens of the ballroom.

that car/owner is a disgrace. It makes all of us look like morons that claim to have things that we don't. He might as well throw GTR badges and whatever else on it so he can fit in with the others like him.
1st off, the sideskirts, imo, put the car out of any chance of being considered as magazine material. He has rivets all across the top. Not a clean install AT ALL.
Then he claims to have a custom blitz kit. Sorry dude, that is just a sinsei kit. Don't claim to be custom.
I guess someone stole my car and widened my fenders also. This guy has custom fender flares apparently. Oddly enough, every other DSM has those same "custom fender flares." :laugh:

Sure, it's a decent car. It's a daily driver tho. No glamour. It's just half-assed on the outside and has some engine mods. It's suitable for driving the hell out of. It's nothing worth being featured. It's not anything special. Just another eclipse with a really common engine setup and a half-assed show appeal.

Sorry if this offends anyone or sounds too blunt. I'm just sick of seing crap like this in magazines. I've honestly seen cars on forums and in small cities that deserve more recognition than half the stuff that gets featured. It shouldn't be about who you know and who built your car. It should be about who has a nice car that has form and function both so that the car is interesting, yet still atleast somewhat pleasing to look at. The attitude should matter also. If the driver starts naming out bullshit mods, the magazine crew should know and just ditch his feature.

I guess it coulda been worse.

SCC actually did a thing on sleeper cars in the november 03 issue. In there they have a white 2g GSX, it looks completely stock, no window tint, no big wing or body kit. The car looks completely stock except for the rims. In the same issue there is also a 4g63 powered Hyundai excel.

I actually have that issue. That was the hottest DSM i have seen in there. There was one car that was nice too, i had a blitz body kit, fender flares and sittin on 19 inch rims. It was gun metal grey and it had a large sticker on the windsheild that said bonifacio or something like that. I dont remember what it said exactly but that one was hot. Also what i said earlier about not seeing to many dsm's, I was mainly talking about the earlier issues. Lately there have been a few dsm's but like seriously every time you turn a page in this magazine its always drifting and or a turbo civic. Im in no way a drifting hater, but sometimes its just over kill. Thanks for the replys!

Glad they did "one" magazine dedicated to sleepers... too bad they don't do it most of the time - or even half the time. I wish there was a magazine that focused on imports with no body kits, conversions or wings - just big performance mods, nice paint, minor accents and lowered for better handling. Now that's where you'd see the real cars.

Thats where they would loose all of their fast and the furious crowd. You know the pozers that dont know shizzle about performance, but do know what wing will fit on their Nissan Stanza!

The cover says something like "inside the cars that roam the streets looking for Vettes and Vipers" When is a turbo'ed stock motor integra going to beat a Vette? Or the 280Z going to beat a Viper? And that Hyndai was basically a stock GS-T. Wow, great choices SCC


And then some of the cars weren't "sleepers" at all. If I see a black Supra pull up with huge brakes and a rumbling exhaust the last thing Im thinking is oh look at this piece. Or SCCs commentary of "aside from the giant FMIC, 14" rotors,dual A-pillar gauges and exhaust you wouldn't know this car was fast" , at what point is something not a sleeper? Bodykits and thats it? Lazy writing and R&D for that article. Modified mag ownz all.

I'm glad it's not another magizine that shows just stock cars with modified engines, american muscle has enough of that $hit. SCC has a pretty good balance between looks and performance. Import Tuner is better though since the cars are really nice not just engine shots and crap, really who cares what the engine bay looks like - you don't drive down the street with your hood up! It should be mostly looks and how the car sounds. of course that's just my opinion and alot of you disagree, but without a body kit, it just doesn't have the same visual appeal that 90% of the readers are looking for.

I think HCI is a really good magazine. It's not all the same "popular guys" all the time. It shows a good mix of what really is out there. Some of the cars are basic, but that is interesting. They are atleast clean and not all ghetto. I'm sorry. My pet peeve with kits is having rivets showing.

Well...at least they're not as bad as Import Tuner. Every other page has a cindarella story about a Civic SI or 240SX that's been turned from junkyard waste to show car and has a whopping 240 horsepower with over $25,000 invested in it...

I'm glad it's not another magizine that shows just stock cars with modified engines, american muscle has enough of that $hit. SCC has a pretty good balance between looks and performance. THE most important thing about this issue was the decision for the release of the EVO IV... oops, I mean the EVO VIII v2... oops, I mean the EVO VIII MR. They are finally going to bring the 6 speed tranny that is attatched to the 4g63t over in JDM world to the states. Now if I could only figure a way to afford a very complicated swap.

As for the eclipse. I agree that it was nothing special, but SCC is a good mag for the most part. If you guys want to be heard about them featuring crap DSMs then here:
