Does anyone know if I can still get replacement seals for a 1gb spoiler from the dealership or somewhere online? I'm pulling my spoiler to re-paint the car, and need to figure out how to go about re-sealing the spoiler mount. If not, does anyone have any ideas on what to use to make a good seal and prevent rattles? I've saved the old seals, so using them as a template is still an option. Another idea I've had include using RTV sealant on the mounting pads (might make future removal difficult however). Just throwing this out there to see what others have done in the past (the search didn't reveal any real information.

if the original seals are not damaged and are the soft rubber then as long as you tighten your spoiler down hard enough they should still seal, if i am talking about the same thing as you, and this should also prevent rattling. You could call your local dealership and see what they have to say, or buy a different spoiler off ebay or something that has the seals and everything that is aftermarket and just fiberglass the old holes and make new ones if you even have to, they might line up. Also if it came down to it you could always use that foam tape that is used for sealing like toppers on a truck (the stuff that they put on the rim of the bed to set the topper on) that would probably work really good. If it can seal a topper it could seal a spoiler.

I would use the old ones as a templete for new ones. Also to the guy just above me...or 1st post, tightening them down really tight will mess the metal that he just had repainted, and IMO aftermarket spoilers look terrible on DSMs so I wouldnt go with one. Sorry to jack this tread a little but WTF makes someone think a bigger spoiler on our DSMs is better? Like they are either FWD or AWD so no point unless its got RWD conversion on it.

I did not say a bigger one. I was talking about an aftermarket that is generally the same in looks and size. And im not saying tighten it with a 5 foot cheater bar on a big wrench. If you tighten it down like it is supposed to be then it should seal up with the original seals unless they are baked or damaged.

Oh ok, sorry about the mix up with tightening it down...and I didnt think you were talking about a bigger one, I figured you ment an aftermarket one about the same size but still IMO any aftermarket spoiler dont look right on DSMs, and I was just using this post to see if anyone else thought about the same with the huge wings that I see people put on DSMs.

Yeah most of them are dopy looking, and reverse funtional. Why bring pressure off the front tires and onto the rear when you are just losing traction? Some of them, depending on the styling of the car, and the color, dont look that bad, but that is on rare occassion. I still have the stock 97 talon spoiler on mine, and i dont think i will ever change that one out.

FWIW I have no interest in ever installing an aftermarket spoiler on any car LOL. So, what kind of material should I use for the gasket? Is there some kind of Dynamat that I could use that is waterproof and compressible enough, or just some generic rubber sheeting (i.e. from an innertube), and some 3M spray adhesive?

buy some of the sponge tape that is made by 3M it is squishy on one side and sticky on the other. That is what people use to seal the topper on a car all the time. Thats pretty cheap and easy to put on.
