09/27/13 Track Results
Well I think the manifold showed some positive results. I'll first admit that due to a time crunch and the track being busy I did do some tuning changes. I added 1 degree of timing and pulled 2% fuel (remember this is e85 so leaning it out doesn't show nearly the power like gas). Overall the car definitely felt stronger in the higher rpms, I didn't feel as significant a power drop-off as I approached 7k rpms. The car consistently hit over 120 mph including a best of 120.87 which is over 1.5 mph better then my previous top mph, and hitting 120 the car is consistently up 2+ mph. I credit some of that to the tuning but I do believe the manifold shined. I will be returning this one to it's owner and I'll be watching for a Black Friday sale to grab my own now.

As for results with the car, I've already said mph was up considerably for a maxed out 14b setup. But, alas I did not better my best ET. I only got 3 passes in for the night as it was busy and I had a few complications early on. My first launch was a 1.52, second was totally botched and I aborted the run, and the third was my best with a 1.49 that netted a 11.152 pass at the aforementioned 120.87 mph. Clearly the car would have ET'd a new best if I had gotten those 60's down to those mid/low 1.4's. I honestly just need more practice so I can dial myself in.

Positively though it seems stiffening the suspension has taken care of my "bouncing out of the hole" scenarios. Both clean launches were much smoother then what was happening at the shootout.

There may be some videos coming, standby.

So that is more then likely it for 2013. So this years results.

Best ET 11.146 @ 118.17
Best MPH 11.152 @ 120.87

ET change from 2012 = .395
MPH change = 4.35 mph

Not a bad season at all!

Plans for this off-season:

I want to get the car on a dyno within the next month. Mostly just to satisfy curiosity.

I need to start bending my budget. I need a 5-6 point rollcage fabbed and welded in, a driveshaft loop, 5 point harness, and scattershield to satisfy safety requirements.

I want to add my own FP manifold after seeing those positive results.

A staging brake is high on my list, I truly believe it will help my launches.

Wish List: Lexan rear and side windows, 1 gallon fuel tank w/external pump, PV front crossmember bar, aluminum piping to re-design my ram-air intake, full Prothane/Energy Suspension bushing kit

And one big factor: ECMLink has offered me a partial sponsorship/discount on upgrading to V3 and their speed density package. My wife talked to them at the shootout and they showed interest so we ended up emailing back and forth. It's an awesome deal and the first of any kind of "official sponsorship". I did not want to have to re-learn to tune this fall so I wanted to wait until the off-season to do it. I really think going to SD will free up a couple horsepower and I know I can get a more efficient tune on the car with the V3 features. I'm really excited about this and will be spending a lot of time researching tuning V3 w/speed density. Thanks again anyone from ECMLink reading this!

Well there is actually a pretty big update to make, but I wanted to be a lot further along when I revealed it. Unfortunately based on budget, work, snow, and lack of a heated work space it really hasn't gone far yet. But, maybe it's time to reveal the new plans.

Old blue is probably getting scrapped! I've barely begun the tear-down process but a few things have been removed already. Pretty much going to tear her down to nothing, just an empty non-rolling shell. The biggest project will be removing the roof skin.

To put on this new fella

IMG_20131107_132841_184.jpg

Why you ask? Because I got a steal on it with a 6 point chromoly rollbar already installed. And, because old blue isn't as pretty as 95talongirl's photo's portray. She has some pretty decent rot hiding under those side skirts, and a nice rust hole through the floor of the trunk, and another rust hole in the passenger rear fenderwell. I was seriously contemplating doing my best to fix those issues and have a rollbar setup installed in it, but then this came available.

This shell has very minimal rust. A few scratches, dents, and dings but overall it's in much better condition. A lot of the weight loss stuff has already been done although I'll be going over it thoroughly of course. It has a sunroof which is why I plan on swapping the roof skins.

The plans are staying the same in general, lighten this new shell up as much as possible, swap in everything from the blue car, and try like mad to go 10's on the 14b in an awd!

But, saying goodbye is going to be tough! And this isn't going to happen overnight. I plan on doing a lot of cleaning up on the shell before I start installing things. I also am looking at getting a few things (like a fuel cell) done before it's moving under it's own power. That means pulling from the car budget which is slow growing. Having it tore down this far means I can do it all the way I want it right from the get-go. It just means it probably won't be out for our tracks opening days.

But Shane, that rust is weight reduction. :sneaky: Now you'll need more power!

The new car does look very nice though, not going to lie! Looks like Brian's; but this one will actually move this year... er.. 2014 ;)

seen the pic on your FB pic.....You can still sale old blue. Stocker guys buy him all the time or dirty racer

Possibly, but if I do swap the roof skins I probably won't take the time to put the sunroof one onto the blue car.

Gotta love white! When do you plan to have it up and running?
White has been growing on me. I don't have an official plan on time yet. Part of my thought process is to do it all right from the get-go, which may mean taking more time so I can afford the new parts I want to add. My do or die date is smoking down the 1320 by at least the shootout!

I have some plans for extra weight loss. I truly believe it may come in lighter this year, even with the 6 point in the new shell. Power shouldn't be a problem either as Link V3 is on the way now! Plus I'll be trying to find new and exciting ways to increase power production elsewhere. And yes this car will move "this year" meaning 2014! :rocks:

This the start of an all out 14b drag build??

Well, that started several years ago with the blue car ha ha! I just add new pieces every year as the budget allows. But you could call this a little more extreme. I do not plan on putting this shell together with a stock fuel tank setup, so a 1 gal. fuel cell setup is on the shopping list. The car has a current lexan hatch window that I hope to swap to my carbon hatch. I want to do the side windows in lexan this year. And I'm going to get a little more extreme with the other weight loss stuff (dash, wiring, spot weld cutter). But, still no motor build planned so not really full-out yet. The plan/goal is that 10 second pass. How deep I try to get is going to be based on the roadblocks faced and motivation levels!

Sweet build whats funny is I saw your car in Jackson at a apartment complex, good job on the ecmlink help, I have full now and getting ready to get it tuned on sd here in town soon. Great work Ive been following you and this build for some time now, you've grown a lot, Props man, hope we can meet up sometime were not to far apart from each other.
