Speedometer Won't Work Help Please

Okay, I know all about the speed sensor and everything. I've bought a new sensor, and tested it with a drill and it worked fine. The plastic gear that snaps onto the speed sensor is fine as well. The teeth look clean, and no breaks anywhere on the gear. Now my next question is... could it be the gear that is actually built into the transmission? It's yellow, and spins the gear that snaps on the speed sensor gear I assume. What is this gear called? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Well, I've put in a different gauge cluster as well. Nothing happened then as well. I noticed that down in my old eclipse transmission that yellow gear doesn't move unless the car is moving itself. In the transmission I have now that gear spins freely, but it was fine when I first put it in. I just stopped behind a school bus one day, and it just quit working.
