speed sensor bolt stripped

So I was changing my speed sensor when I accident dropped the bolt inside the transmission (had to drop the tranny to get it out ). I got it out and attempted to put the speed sensor on and it seems that the hole (tranny side) was stripped by the previous owner.

Should I re-thread it and get a larger bolt or try and find a longer bolt that dips into the "good" threads?

i would try a slightly longer bolt first and if that doesnt work then get out the tap set and make a bigger hole.

ya im gonna try and find one...if not ill go ahead and try using a standard size bolt before busting out the taps.

I wouldn't recommend to use bigger bolt which you have to drill the speed sensor to be able to bolt it on, the speed sensor hole is for a 10mm bolt, so if you go 12mm, then you will have to drill the sensor.

If I were you, I would helicoil it and you will still reuse your bolt.

no your right 12 would be way to big i was thinking of trying a 7/16 or 3/8...heli is also a good idea but i dont want it coming out if the sensor doesnt work...the sensor i have is from a 95 and the gear is slightly bigger...being as the car is new to me im not sure if the tranny is a 2ga so im trying this gear as per the original gear (97-99) is all tore up.

could be that i have to pull the sensor again shortly and dont want to deal with a heli coil coming out with the bolt when the tranny is back in the car...

i would use helicoil on it personally, its alot stronger
