Hello, I'm new here. Hoping to get some help. My son recently bought a 1998 gsx. It has a blue set of NGK wires numbered 1,2,3,4. Am I correct the numbers correspond with the spark plugs? The previous owner did not have them wired that way. I switched them and they seem to lay better. Also, the car has some mods and one is "replaced factoru ecu and dsm link". Now the way the car is wired is not the factory sequence I have seen on a diagram on this site. Would an aftermarket unit change the firing order?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I don't know much about thes cars. (Vette guy, sorry!)

thanks

No, firing order stays the same. 1-3-4-2. "1" being next to the cam sprocket cover and works right to left..

DSM 4G63 motors uses, what's called 'Waste spark' system. two plugs are paired together in series from one coil. One plug fires electrode to ground and the other fires ground to electrode. Thus a simple 180 degree firing system.

(Be nice if that 98 GSX had the Vette 427CID, L88 block under the hood .. scare everybody in the neighborhood...LOL - that's one WICKED motor CHEV put out)

Well, I have that diagram and it's not wired either way. I tried the 97+ way and it would'nt start. It's actually wired this way:

Plug 4 to coil #2 (from right to left), plug 3 to coil 4, plug 2 to coil 3 and plug 1 to coil 1. Like I said, the wire numbers didn't correspond with the plugs, so I changed them to match the plug number and it seems to run the same. I was in this car it ran like a raped ape, but idles low and seems like it wants to almost stall after revving.

Thanks

There's actually only 2 coils. Cylinders 1/4 and 2/3 fire together, so the pairs just need to connect to the correct coils.

For the idle, you could try adjusting it by following this write-up: http://vfaq.com/mods/BISS-2G.html

Yes, I tried that, didn't work. Will try the 95-96 diagram.

Well it looks like the previous owner had them wired by the 95-96 diagram with 1 and 4 wires crossed. I switched them and no real noticable difference. I assume this is the correct wiring now.

Going to have it checked out by my mechanic, anyway.

Another queation: The AC fan is missing. Does this mean the AC is deleted and not functional?

Thanks

Yeppers...compressor would sit on the right side of the block facing the crank pulley. Unless, there has been an alternator mount kit added to move the alternator to this right side position just to get it away from the FMIC and to keep it cooler.

The condensor radiator should be gone as well since it sat in front of the main radiator.

Plus, with that fan gone, makes it tons easier to change out the alternator

Well, I can hear a compressor when the ac button is switched on and the alternator is on the bottom drivers side where the fan was removed. Doesn't that fan help cool the engine also?
