Personaly I like HokieDSM CF cover much better being completely flat on top. And would like to know where he got it from.

I like it better too  :p

It came with the car - as I recall, there was a guy on DSMtalk who used to make them - but I think CarbonTrix is the only one doing them nowadays..

But CarbonTrix does custom work - I bet you could get them make one with a flat top, as opposed to the OE curved style.

i dont think running without one is all that much diffrent than having one with vents or just one in general. They arent air tight to begin with and slope in away that water, if poured on top, will run into the spark plug area anyways. also, the spark plug wires should hold water out as well, as they are pretty much air tight over the spark plugs. so you must have been driving through ALOT of water....

Agreed, I wouldn't be driving with a cover that had vents for the same reasons. If I didn't make that clear, oops, but that was part of the point, hehe. No, they aren't airtight or even water-tight, but If you splashed water on a valve cover with a stock plug cover in place, and one without, I'm pretty sure a LOT more water would make it directly into the plug wells with the cover off. I figure the small bit that does seep through the edges of the cover won't make it into the plug wells thanks to the raised edges at the tops of the wells.

As for the amount of water, well, like I said it was puddles here and there from snowfall, as well as drifting/sliding around in snow.

I am not being condescending so no one take it this way but if you look at cuttheduck's valve cover, or any of the others, you will notice that small hole on the right front corner next to the valve cover bolt. I am not sure if you all knew or not but that is a drain hole. Any large amounts of water will drain out of this hole. Smaller amounts will probally stay in corner and such, but if you get alot in there it will drain out. Sometimes it is clogged with oil on the inside of the well since it is in the corner were everything gathers.
I have had my plug wires very well seated and filled this up with some soapy water once when cleaning some messy oil and dirt out of the plug well....water just drained right out nicely. If water is sitting in yours then that hole is clogged or the car is not angled in that direction, just get the hanger you use for the bong and ram it thru. Or even jack the opposite side of the car up if you clean it out. (J/K about the bong snippet!) :)

I found one the other day, I just shaved and painted a valve cover black, and im thinking this would compliment it extreamly well since I plan to get a OEM CF hood as well.

Thing is I can't figure out where the hell I found it!

Also if anyone would like to sudjest any metal ones be my guest, thanks.

franks doesnt have anything but hoods for the 1g... im talking about back hatches... fenders ... kick panels... everything.

I was replying to RipperXX. He asked about spark plug covers for dsm. Franks has them for 70 bucks.

I have a CF spark cover - but I've not seen another like it. I think there was a guy a few years ago who made them like mine - but apparently he's not doing it anymore. $70 is a lot for a spark plug cover -CarbonTrix would prolly get my vote out of the lot- plus, they do custom work, so you could probably get it to look however you wanted.
