i just recently found oil in my #4 spark plug well. its not just a little bit of oil it covers pretty much the entire top of the plug. i also found a little oil in my #2 plug. there was also oil leaking on the out side dripping on the ground. i changed my valve cover gasket and the 4 plug gaskets and it didnt fix the problem. the plug wells are still filling up with oil and oil is still dripping on the ground. there is also some smoke coming from the car. what else could it be? someone please help!! :dsm:

Your headgasket is going to have nothing to do with this problem. You more than likely cracked the valve cover when you tightened it. Next time either use all 1/4" drive sockets and ratchets or just use an extension and 10mm socket and go as tight as you can get them with your hand, no ratchet.

Ya you probly did crack it.
When I bought my car there was oil in the plugs and in the whole plug area. Any way i took all the plugs out replaced them and got bigger and newer wires. Also while that sh** not connected no plugs no wires in the way. Grab a bunch of shop towels and get al the freakin oil out of the plug cover area and the plug holes themselves. Wipe it all out real good, make sure you get down where the plug seats. Install new plugs and wires. put back on plug cover if u want. make sure it's all put back together right.
now if your car still is leaking then u definatly cracked the valve cover, replace ## valve cover...

I had this problem as well and found that I did have a crack in my valve cover. Those things are extremely brittle. Also are you using your upper timing belt cover? Also did you use RTV silicone in the corners and under the half moon? If not oil could be being slung by your cam gears. But I suspect crack especially if there is no oil on the bottom of your hood.

420a VC gaskets don't require half-moons, ;) but there are a few corners that do need to be siliconed.

Pull the VC and check that the plug well seals didn't shift or fall during installation, and inspect again for cracks. Oil will seep through small cracks in the cover, which may be difficult to see. It is obvious that something is botched.

Not to sure on a n/t but if its like most cars it has a rubber o-ring when you pull the valve cover off that seals the plug alley that seal the valve cover to the head were the plugs are. And they are known to go bad.

Did your gasket come with the o-rings? Also, if you torque down the valve cover too tight it will warp or crack on ya and you'll get leaks. I don't even use a ratchet...just the extension and socket and tighten them by hand that way.

Yea, the outer gasket, the 4 plug gaskets and the half moons. Idk I torqued it to the specs in the book.

Yeah i had the same problem with my turbo talon and my issue was the oil cap..stupid o ring went hard on me .

How do you know its a gasket. Get some engine cleaner spray it remove the oil drive er and then check
