Something doesn't look right with these injectors. Please Advise!

I just purchase some used FIC injectors online. Overall, they look to be in very good condition. However, I noticed something that is bothering me. While inspecting the injector nozzles, I noticed that they don't look the same as other aftermarket injectors I've owned. What I think is called a "Spray Plate" is missing on all 4 injectors. There is one large orifice instead of 5 or 6 smaller orifices that would normally create a spray pattern. I'll include a couple pictures below. These are FIC 1050cc injectors (Part # 126-1050). Does anyone have any FIC injectors that they can take a picture of? I'd like to confirm that the injectors aren't missing parts. Thanks!

Most of the larger injectors don't have the plate in them, they have more of a pencil dispersion pattern.

I appreciate the reply. So, do the nozzles in the pictures look normal for FIC 1050cc injectors? I couldn't find a picture on the internet for comparison. I just found it a little concerning that it looks like there is solder on each injector where the plate would be.

My pte 1000's have that spray plate you're talking about. I know they aren't the same, but just thought I'd post for comparison purposes.

IICR older sets of big(1000-1500) FIC's were hand drilled back in the day before they started mass producing them (like 2009?)

i've seen subaru guys modify injectors that way on a couple other forums... so i searched and here's a article talking about it and the pic looks like what you're seeing

Senior Editor Scott Tsuneishi discovered an interesting claim put forth by multiple Subaru DIY-ers on many popular forums: With a simple modification, certain stock Subaru fuel injectors can be made to flow nearly twice their original capacity, reliably, and with no performance drawbacks. Remove the restrictors of those injectors-by cutting them off with something like a Dremel, or sanding them down altogether-and you've got an injector capable of safely flowing 800+ cc.

The Verdict:
Yes, the modified stock injector did flow as much as an aftermarket high-flow unit. But as John told us, "The stock Subaru injectors are fitted with restrictive tips that increase fuel pressure and regulate spray pattern for better atomization to improve combustion.

Thank you cmehlxl and donniekak. Both of you provided very helpful information. I sent an email to FIC at the same time I posted this thread. They responded and it turns out that the injectors are meant to be that way. This is because they are 550cc injectors that were modified to have a 1050cc flow rate. I guess they modified them in a way similar to what Subaru guys do with their injectors as stated in the information provided by cmehlxl. Unfortunately, I intended to purchase 550cc injectors but ended up with these. Oh well, at least they should be easy to sell

Why not keep them? 550 isn't much improvement over stock.

At least you got room to grow with 1050cc. My first injectors were 1000cc on a 16G. Better to have more fuel than starve, trust me

Because, I plan on using a SAFC. I can't control 1050cc injectors with a SAFC. I may go as large as 650cc injectors but for now I'm content with a set of 550s. The bottom end in my car has 172k so I don't plan on pushing it too hard.

This is interesting, I have an old set of RC 500cc injectors, and they have a drilled plate inside...I wonder how much cc gain is possible if they're removed they look like the ones in the link below https://www.vividracing.com/catalog...njectors-47lbs-set-clearance-p-151034060.html.
[edit] Upon further research: I don't think it would be worth risking a motor over some home-brew hacked injectors , I guess the price we pay on a new set is worth the peace of mind.

I'm 99% sure that is correct for the FIC injector. I have 1450's that have the same tip as yours. It would be hard to spray the amount of fuel that these injectors push with a spray plate. I just installed my injectors last week so I can't take a picture but I do remember when I tested injectors in my garage it was almost a straight shot of fuel that came out.

They look just like my fic 1050's Had mine cleaned and data matched and they actually flow 1150 . Was stoked about that
