so i finally finished my first 420a intake manifold.............

See what you miss if you go away. Did you at least hear about the chipped, turbo 4g63 ECU that was developed? It allows us to run 16 AFR's on pump gas, while boosting 35 lbs on a 42R. Without a FMIC!

LOL, got 2 installed already. I can toggle between set-ups...WHILE DRIVING!..

ohh.. and btw mike, that things too pretty for that 95 butt ugly fuel rail. LOL.

Yeah, but Mr. Naturally-Aspirated can't possibly justify upgrading to something better.

On a side note, I know this manifold looks like probably the best thing that has happened to the DSM 420A in a while, but keep your questions technical. All other inquiries are for PM's.

good call sir.

Looks really good, props

Was just wondering about the throttle cable, are you able to just drill and tap onto that peice you welded on. and stilll able to run the stock cable?

That's the intention. When I get it, any install problems will arise quickly :).

Keep in mind that this is a work in progress. You guys are able to see the progress instead of just the finished application/information. Hey I could get this and we could have an unforseen problem that could screw the whole intake set-up (I doubt it though). But that's the chance you take when doing something like this.

And, of course, I'll post up info.

thats exactly right (i hadnt told him that yet though :shhh:) ROFL yeah he will have to put some hard labor into the manifold as well but i think hes gonna be just fine.

you sir need to get into fabrication. excellent welds.

im trying to get my name out.......... alot of the neon guys come my way when looking for an intake manifold or a ported head. eventually when i get all cought up i will start on headers and turbo manifolds for all these cars. thanks for the good words sir :thumb:

Yeah you are def gonna have a fun time cables wise. That's where I'm at now trying to figure out if just simply going with a non cruise control setup would be long enough to acomidate . One question I have is did you have any aftermarket tb in mind when desgining because it doesn't look like there's much room for any boring and adding of a larger tb?

yeah its ready to bolt on the mpx 60mm............. mark saw pics of mock up with it on it.

ahhhh I remember this guy now I recognize that picture from the other thread I had about the neon guys doing this same idea. There was a manifold like this on ebay for like 300 or something i dind't watch what it sold for but I wouldn't be suprised if it touched 400.

I must say your welds rival my guy's welds. And my guy welds for a living!

If I ever need any other welding done I'll definately contact you man. Again, those ports and welds are amazing. Looks great. :thumb:

Looks sexy.

What kind of vacuum sources are allowed in the back? Will you make them with vacuum ports in the future? I think alot of us turbo guys would love some more vacuum ports to allow for direct vacuum to more accesories.

Thanks,

I do have to give you props on the welds!!! I went to school for welding and fabrication and can't really say my welds are any better especially for welding to cast!!! My question pertains to flow numbers. Do you use a flow bench when designing these new manifolds and if you do what are new and old flow numbers??? I built my own turbo manifold and I never flowed the first one we built and it really hurt my performance. Then on the second one we used the flow bench all the way thruogh and there was like 2 worlds of difference. one first one I had less flow than a cast bolt on then on second one I had flow numbers twice the capacity of that old bolt on cast manifold and almost 3 times the flow of first manifold I built. PS you have inspired me to build an aluminum intake of my own now I just have to find time. GOOD WORK AND KEEP IT UP:thumb::D!!!!!!!!!!!!

no sir i didnt have this one flow benched, this is the same design i use in my neon intakes and they have yeiled a 71 whp in one forced induction case............ i do have my heads flow benched though. when it comes to turbo manifolds depending on how much flow you have it could be a good thing or a bad thing............. low end could go buy buy and top end could scream or visa versa.

Just a little update. Did some fitment today (my ADD kicked in while I was putting 450's onto the OBX intake. So I decided to try fitment) .

OK, so it did not look like a good fit:

I tried to get her to fit but the 2 studs on the head were getting in the way. Oddly enough there was no problem with clearance at the firewall, it was the heater hoses and other wire management that I had to get by. So I took one stud off the head with the double nut treatment;

and I was able to get her in;

Looks kinda funny all flat and shit! Don't worry about all the wires and hoses. I know I will need to manage those once it gets all back together. But as you can see it gets tight by the throttle body area. So on goes the MP60mm;

That's gonna get messy and tight. Let's take a look at the intake area;

Yup that's tight and low. And that's with a 1/2 size Integra battery. So I took a look at it with my larger pipe ram air and my smaller AEM intake.

RAM AIR

AEM INTAKE (I know it's 90* off)

The larger intake (which I have to use) just won't make that area. You can see if I use the smaller pipe AEM, then it will fit. So I will need to relocate my battery (I'm going to put it up front where my old stock airbox used to be). As for the throttle cable, pretty simple and straight forward;

You can see that it reaches fine, and all I have to do is mark it, drill it and tap it. Very straight forward (did not do this yet because I don't have the tap and drill bit on me). But no problem there.

Now for the Coup de Gras. The injectors and rail. Think about what a pain in the ass it is to change these out with the C-shaped stocker. Not too much fun. BUT, with this intake, here's how I put the rail on;

TA DA! It's almost worth it for just this access. You can see at the top of the pic that I left the ratchet in place where the socket just goes straight through. Ahhhh, the ease of installation :thumb:

Now this was just a fitment install. I haven't done a complete install yet. As a matter of fact, I put the OBX back on after I put the 450's in it. I will be taking that set-up to the dyno with my next "goody" installed, first.

Atlantic Detroit Diesel? I did an inventory in one of their NJ locations a little while back. All turbos and huge diesel trannys :D

Haha, I may agree, that alone might be reason enough to swap to that manifold :thumb: Looking good Mark. I like that you left Driggs' message on there

Silly question Mark, but is it any longer than the stock manifold? It doesn't look it but your clearance issues with the battery make me assume so.

btw ygpm

very happy to see u didnt have any major issues mark.............. now we just need to wait and see what it does on the dyno. im warning u now u are going to lose a little low end so dont be freaked out on the butt dyno. and for guys that dont have a tap u could always just drill holes through the throttle cable mounting tab and use nuts an bolts to hold it there :thumb:

good job sir :thumb:
