wow that is a work of art! amazing work. hopefully some day in the future I will both need the benefits of an IM like that over our stocker, as well as afford to have one made.

Very nice, Mike. :thumb:

The recent IM discussions interests me. Too bad I have several pre-existing obligations that will prevent me from doing anything I actually enjoy until after the first of the year. :toobad:

Looks pretty good!! Did you use sheetmetal or aluminum and how hard was it to weld? Because I might try and do something similar.:thumb:

well i used sheet aluminum (1/8" thick)............. welding was easy for me but i always do it. i also always hear people saying how hard it is to weld on cast aluminum.

thanks for the good words guys

Mike, If you'd like, I could break that thing in for Mark while delivering it to Connecticut for you. ;)

It'll be a surprise. :shhh:

What size is the plenum?
What size is the plenum opening?
What length are the runners?
What is the taper on the plenum?

Enquiring minds want to know...

Wow dude. That is impressive! Those are beautiful welds. I can weld, but my stuff is better for exhaust work (where you don’t see it)!

humm...looks good,
Feel like mailing one to seattle???

anyways now the questions.....since you cut out the lower half, does the intake opening sit lower then the regular intake manifold?

It'll be a surprise. :shhh:

the plenum starts at 4" and tapers to 3" before end cap tapers to the plenum floor. i tried using my templates for my neon intakes to build this plenum but the plenum hwas about 1.5" longer so thats why there is more of a taper there than on my neon intakes. the runners are not a calculated length they are the length that i had to go with to just make it past the fuel rail and for the throttle cam to clear also........ it should move marks power band up just a little bit :). this would be equivelant to my meidum runner neon manifold in terms of over all dimensions. and the owner of this car recently did 201 whp in all motor form. with 12.5 compression, crane 22's, MS.......... pretty much everything mark has. there will be a loss in the low end but up top it pulls like a freight train.

and yes guys this is made from the lower half of a stock manifold......... it is gonna set your plenum down behind the head and there will need to be modifications to run it. once mark gets it he can let us know what all is gonna need to be done....... and dont forget im also looking into a performance bolt on plenum for the 420a.

Heh heh :p.

Well, you used the word sexy, Mike, and I gotta agree. Just very, very nice work, man. I sure do hope this does what I want it to, because you did almost exactly what I had envisioned. I'll have to take the blame if it doesn't ;). Thank you sir.

We'll see what the numbers become in a little bit. I have to dyno a LTH (that is being developed by a 2gnt'er), then we'll make it next in line. This will definitely put me into the 450's (mitsu injectors).

Unfortunately, it's a bit of apples to oranges in comparing us to the Neon guys. They got the right idea by air in the front, and out the back (duh!). We got the extra exhaust bends to take away some of our power (I have seen a couple of estimates of about 8% per bend), but it sure would be nice to come up on that, as yet unreachable, 200whp mark :sneaky:.

This absolutely looks like the route to take for high performance NA or turbo (I'm guessing your turbo plenum would be a bit bigger).

Thanks again,

MB

You be sure to keep us updated on the new numbers and the change in the curve for both the LTH and the IM.

WOW, long time no see guys. Have not been able to log on to tuners. That thing is amazing!

See what you miss if you go away. Did you at least hear about the chipped, turbo 4g63 ECU that was developed? It allows us to run 16 AFR's on pump gas, while boosting 35 lbs on a 42R. Without a FMIC!

well the way I'm picturing this in my head,

The EGR is definately going to be scrap metal (even if there was provisions in the intake manifold for it, it would require a new custom made tube, and probably get in the way of where the intake or charge pipe would be now that the intake plenum drops even with the head.

(mark i'm pretty sure your cruise control (if you had it) is gone, but would the plenum get in the way of any ordinary stock items located back there.

And I couldn't tell, but does the stock map sensor go in the same location, or is it placed differently?

no it would go in the center of the plenum with the other vacuum source holes (BB, PCV, IAT) but he isnt running the stock map sensor he just needed a 1/4" npt tapped hole for his MS map sensor to plug into.

How much in material and labor would something like this cost us for you to build? I am VERY interested..

Awesome work. Your porting and polishing absolutely amazes me... Beautiful work man. :thumb:

Just to expound on Mike's answer;

The egr would have to have some fabrication to match up to stock alignment. I don't run egr so it wasn't a concern.

I lost my cruise control when i installed the OBX. I can't say if this would interfere or not. It certainly doesn't take up the space that the OBX does.

As Mike said, no stock map, but that could be easily put in the plenum.

i wouldnt want to build another one until we see whats gonna need to be modified so anybody interested in one would know ahead of time. there is no price for labor and material its all a set price and it also includes shipping.

i too am interested in one if you could keep us updated whenever you do decide to go ahead and sell these pm me a price :thumb: after all all the modifications have been made of course

that IM is absolutley gorgeous :D
