Has anybody gotten pulled over for having a smoked license plate cover? If so what happened. If not just say no.

Nope, however, I've had friends that have. It's legal in South Dakota and Wyoming though, so they can't do anything about it, however, check your state laws to be sure.

I have but I'm pretty sure the officer was just using that as an excuse to pull me over to see if I had been drinking. As mentioned above, just look up the laws in your area.

Not me, but I seen some friends get pulled over for their smoked license plates and the cops pulled the big guns on them OMG. It was an interesting night.

I have got pulled over for it. But in pa there is no law that says you cant have a smoked plate cover. He did not write a ticket. He just asked me to remove it. You have to have the lights working. Hope this helps.

I have one, and get hastled for it every once ina while, they just give me warnings/fix it tickets, but I just put it back.

Used to have one but got pulled over almost 3-5 times a week so I threw it in the garage :)

this is in queens ny btw so cops are tight with everything..even my exhaust which is not loud at all -_-

I all ready have one i just haven't gotten pulled over for it yet and i was wondering if I should be concerned.

Dont get them or put them on if you have it. In the state of Mn its illegal due to glare when cops shot its light at it. I've received two ticket for that and thought that it was a bogus citation (vehicle was parked when I received the both citation); went into court explained that cover was on when I bought it from the previous owner and didnt know so the both citation was drop.

guy i work with has one. You can clearly see the letters and numbers though still. Should be fine. Just don't go crazy dark.

Did they tell you that there is a law about it. I was told there was no law. How can they give you a fix it ticket if its not illegal.ROFL

There is a law on it in the state of PA, and many other states. It's considered an obstruction of view of the plate, as well as when you first buy them, they say on the packaging "For off road use only".

Although I swear cops have a bolo out for my car anyways, they always try to hassle me, tint, tag cover, tails, you name it, they will try and pull me over for it.

I've had one since I bought my car.

About a year ago, I got pulled over for other reasons and the cop mentioned that my tinted plate cover was illegal. I told him I didn't know so I would remove it. He didn't give me a ticket. I kept it on and I haven't been bugged since.

Texas Transportation Code

§ 502.409. WRONG, FICTITIOUS, ALTERED, OR OBSCURED
LICENSE PLATE. (a) A person commits an offense if the person
attaches to or displays on a motor vehicle a number plate or
registration insignia that:
(1) is assigned to a different motor vehicle;
(2) is assigned to the vehicle under any other motor
vehicle law other than by the department;
(3) is assigned for a registration period other than
the registration period in effect;
(4) is fictitious;
(5) has blurring or reflective matter that
significantly impairs the readability of the name of the state in
which the vehicle is registered or the letters or numbers of the
license plate number at any time;
(6) has an attached illuminated device or sticker,
decal, emblem, or other insignia that is not authorized by law and
that interferes with the readability of the letters or numbers of
the license plate number or the name of the state in which the
vehicle is registered; or
(7) has a coating, covering, protective material, or
other apparatus that:
(A) distorts angular visibility or
detectability;
(B) alters or obscures one-half or more of the
name of the state in which the vehicle is registered; or
(C) alters or obscures the letters or numbers of
the license plate number or the color of the plate.

That's for Texas. A cop could technically write you a ticket for something as light as having a trailer hitch ball that is in front of the plate.
