Today I started my car for the first time and it turned on ok. But when i went to turn the car on again about 1 min after i shut it off it would try to start but didn't and also smoke was coming from the breather valve on the head of the engine. Could it be that my piston rings aren't good and oil is looking threw them and not letting the fuel ignite? Any suggestions on what else it might be? I've looked for other forums for this but everyone else could have started their car unlike mine. :(

Well can you possibly give more info as into how long its been sitting, and related info. And i guess if it has been sitting a while, start with checking all connectors, like plug wires, and take a gander at your spark plugs. And if be true on sitting a while, maybe even your fuel...... there only possibilities. So a little more info would be helpful.

its been sitting for possibly 2 years and i say possibly because the old insurance cards in the car expired in 07. i checked all the wires and got new spark plugs. And the same thing but the thing is the car turned on before so i dont think its the old fuel.

To check the health of your fuel system, you should measure the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Fuel pressure gauges can be found for under twenty dollars and connect to the Schrader valve on the fuel rail.

Remember, a car needs three things to start: fuel, spark and compression. You can check the compression with a compression gauge and check the spark by removing one of the plugs and grounding the outer electrode to the engine block.
