hey, guys.. i'm new. i'm not completely new to dsm's, as i've had a few 1g m/t awd cars.. i

just aquired a '97 tsi awd, A/T. it has some basic mods, it has the road surge manual shift box, ets front mount, forced perf evoiii 16 g, 3 inch exhaust, stainless 02 dump.. any way, boost is set on wastegate spring (10 lbs)

the car just feels like a turd. it's not as bad from kick down, but a from a dead stop, that's an entirely different matter. when i stall it up, it will build about 7-8 lbs and when i release the brake, its horrid. it could probably be out 60ft'd on a bicycle (no joke) it does not really start pulling noticably untill 3-3.5 k. the check engine light is on, i have not had a chance to pull the codes (i got the car about 2 hrs ago) any way, i was just hoping there might be an obvious "check this" type answer

and it's not a matter of me having really high expectations for the car, but something is noticeably wrong.. driveability wise it's ok, and it will merge with traffic, but something's off. like maby it's pulling timing or something

EDIT. so now the car is running horrid when it get's to boost. if i feather the gas, and let the gears wind out, it drive's ok, but if i give any throttle, and it goes into boost, it hit's a brick wall, and stumbles really bad.. bad maf?

well, it may go higher when brake boosting, but that's where it seems to go. it does not seem to be running too rich. allthough, when i beat on it, i can smell that rotten egg catalytic converter smell. but it's a flowmaster high flow cat, and it probably does not have 1k miles on it. if that. i just got the car, but the guy barely drove it, and did all the mods last year

get a built stall from ipt and boost leak test it the right way with air compressor up to 20psi and see if it leaks it should start leaking at stock boost from 10-14 if theres a leak. 10psi is way too low of boost stock it should run 12-14.

oh, i noticed, when i give it enough throttle to hit boost, i can feel the car surging. it feels almost like it wants to get up and run right, but not quite and same if i nail it..

maybe bad tcu might wanna check it out if its leaking if you still have that in place and hooked up. my 1g did the same but i have a bad tcu it stays in 3rd gear haha did they ever do a motor swap or anything to the car

Sorry to inform you ovaboost, but the tcu doesn't matter at this point..He's not using it anyway..Check how the guy wired the shift box, maybe he forgot the plug the last pigtail into the ecu.I forgot to do that on my mayden voyage after installing my auto shift box, and it kinda ran funny till I plugged the pigtail in...

Check your bov with a boost leak test, like ovaboost said.. It is a 2g bov, they tend to leak something fierce..

my tcu is in play, it has a manual and auto mode. i use auto most of the time. but it's not a trans related issue...

also, i have done a boost leak test, and tested up to 20 psi.. and my bov is a brand new forge

Well, at least we can rule out a boost leak. I still wonder if you are pulling timing while brake boosting though. Have you checked your base timing?

no, i have not checked base timing, but it's not just on the launch. it's just a turd across the board. like i said, it sometimes surges, and you can feel it run better. i finally got the CEL codes pulled and they are

p0170 bb fuel trim bank one,

p1105 bb input speed sensor 2, over speed,

p1750 bb solinoid assembly

i'm hoping the trans codes are from the shift box. the trans seems to do fine.. what is the fuel trim?

This may help you.

I have transmission issues on a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS 2.4 non-turbo automatic tranny, with only 47,678 miles. (Transmission Automatic Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder)

checked the cam timing, it's dead on, and also installed my walbro 255.. (i did not buy it to fix the problem it came with the car)

Sorry to inform you Bud92gsx his TCU was in play.

my car uses the TCU. the road surge box is only used when i have the switch in "MANUAL" mode. most of the time i have it in auto mode, and the car drives and shifts it self like normal.

ok. well, i just got from pull-a-part, grabbed a $25 dimante maf, and it runs a tremendous amount better. it still launches like dookie. and has a little bit of stumble around 4k, but i'm just going to chalk that up to the car needing a tune. i'm sure when i get my afpr, afc, and injectors it will be a screamer

yeah i just got that problem.. the P0170 and a p0135.. but i am going to buy both oxygen sensors and see what happens.. if nothing better than MAf will be next.. my car feels like it bucks all of a sudden when i am driving..
