I did this mod and now my headlights don't come on up or down. Did I miss something?

Check to make sure you pulled and taped off pin #1 and not a different pin. Test it with a meter to make sure it reads as I mentioned above. Also check you headlight fuse in the kickpanel and the big one under the hood. I didnt run across this problem, let me know if that helps. Otherwise I can pull my dah to let you know the colors of the wires.

I didn't pull the pin, all i did was pull the chicklet. Shouldn't it work like that? I don't care if I have to turn off the lights to move them up and down.

If all you did was the pull the chiklet it shouldnt have any problem, just check your fuses, that should be all thats wrong.

I didn't know that the headlights wouldn't work with the key on accessory. That was all the problem was, works great now. Thanks.

Which is pin #1? Pin #1 looking at the back of the switch? From top to bottom... left to right? Sorry if it's obvious. Been a while since I looked at the back of the switch.

Also, the fuse panel under the dash has 3 blank spots that are switched +12v. Might be easier to tap power from there than the cig lighter. The drawback is that it'd only send power with the key in the on position.

Something wrong with your car then. My fogs work just fine with the chicklet mod. But then again I modded the fogs too. Check VFAQ.

Sorry, I should have clarified, Pin #1 should be a blue and white wire and on the top left, flip the swith so there are two empy sockets in the middle top, you can pull the wire out of the socket instead of cutting so it can be reversed. The diagram is on page 6-85 of the chiltons manual and 8-19 of the DTM.pdf. And as stated before, you should also do the fog light switch "fix" located on this site to remedy the fog light problem. If you use the ignition 12v for both power wires for both switches, you can have the fogs as daytime running lights( and still be able to turn them off with the switch) and the popup button will work only with the key in(no more friends beaking your motors).
*note if you use the fog light swith to pass 12v throught it, rather then the way it is designed, you should use a relay, i burnt up the first switch but now that i used a relay its had no problems

oh ya u have modded fogs, that is why. Without doing that the fogs will not work

i would love to tell you but i also have no idea as to what you're even talking about. the only aftermarket lighting for our cars are either absolutely hideous altezzas (and no the carbon ones aren't ok just cuz they're darker) or universal foglights.

i know arctic TSI has that done to his car, might want to ask him for some information. personally i think its kind of dumb looking. i think 1gs with popups look cool with the lights all the way up, has that older sports car kind of look. like corvettes

If you want to do it then pull the fuse in the engine bay marked headlight motor. Then you have to crank them up manually to where you want them and they'll stay like that.

But the popup button only works when the lights are off. If you turn them on they automaticcally flip up. There is a way to do it where the motors still work but it bypasses the auto up feature. It is referred to as the "chiclet" mod cause the relay looks like a chiclet. Search for it and I'm sure you'll find it.

this post will tell you how to make your 1g dsm have "lazy eyes: or "Sleepy eyes." that is when you turn on your headlights and they are only half up but the still are on. it looks f---ing bad as hell if u ask me. first you need turn your car on and put the lights on the up position. then turn off your car and pop the hood. put the hood up and look behind the pop ups. there should be a rubber cap that says turn and has arrows on both ends of a line. take both of those off and there should be a red knob that has a line with only 1 arrow. start turning it the opposite dirrection of the arrow so the lights start going down. set them at the desired height, put the caps back on the red knob, shut the hood, and then go to the passenger seat. remove the passenger side kick panelby pushing in the middle of 3 cap things, and then pulling them out. after that, take the whole kick panel off.over to the right, there should be two wire connectors with lots of wires connected to both of them. if you disconnect one of them, you can then turn your lights on and off without the headlights poping up, but staying at the same spot. the wire connector that i disconnected was a light gray, and the one i left alone is a white one. roll around and let everyone see ur new mod. if theres anything not clear, drop me a pm, or put a post on here
