Sleepy Eyes [Merged 9-7] snake snakeyes half chicklet mod

That pivot Pop-Up Controller is like $80-90! I like the $3 better, buuuuut I think is cool to have a knob to adjust them, that way you can get them exactly where you want them, without clicking around.

About that red wire. Was that set of three wires found under the passenger kick-panel, sort-of under the glove box, or was it actually at the pop-up motors?

I searched this weekend for how to perform the "sleepy" or "lazy" eye mod on flip up 1g DSM's and what i found didnt really impress me. I didnt want to manually turn up the headlight motor knobs and then just disconnect the motors. Maybe I just didnt get the whole procedure but i wanted them to be able to shut all the way down and go 1/4 up and all the way up at times whenever i felt like it.

This is how I got sleepy eyes to work on my car.

1st I went to the pop up motor relay, ( on mine was called the head lamp relay or something) and found the red power wire to the relay. You have to remove the three bolts to the fuse panel and turn over to see. I then cut the power wire. So now i had two ends.

I lengthened both ends of the wire to run to the steering column where i mounted an on/off switch and attached the wires to this.

So now I can stop power to the headlight motors by breaking the circuit (hitting the switch) which therefore stops the headlights in whatever position they are at. Yes it takes a little bit of cordination but at least you dont have to manually adjust the headlights and at night you can still have them all the way up. Just turn back on the switch to have them funtion as normal. I usually turn the headlights on then shut them off and on the way down hit the switch to stop the motors about a 1/4 way up. Now with the H4 conversion i did and bluish tint shining through the lower lens doesnt look bad. Just thought I'd share this way in case you to dont want to manually control the headlgith positons. Sorry if this has already been shared, I never saw any forums on it.

If you know anything wrong with this please post. :dsm:

You should have just searched for the "chicklet (chiclet) mod". Every 1g-A owner knows about the chicklet mod.

wow, all i have to do is press the button that pops them up before the lights are actaully on, then go into the enginebay and set them where i want, then i can turn my lights on and off all i want and they stay the same, but when i hit the botton so they will start going up and down with the lights, they move normally when i turn them off they go down, and when i turn them on they pop up. hmm.?

you guys think about this to much. its easier then you think. probe guys do it. just find the wire for power for the motor. cut it and put in a momentary switch. now you control how much power it gets and how far they go up. and when you are done just turn your lights off.

Yeah, that's Jose. He lives by me and runs at the local track a lot. Last I heard he got redeployed though. Nice car :D
i saw him run out at south ga motorsports park when i hit 14.9....good guy

Prob with that mod is that the stock fogs no longer work. I am trying to find a easy way around it

Or you could just unplug the harness behind each pop up motor under the hood

Just plug them back in when you want movable headlights. ;)

Why do you guys do this? It makes you cars look so GHETTO!! Also makes the lights look broken. Besides this seems more like something that ricers would do.

some people like the way it looks. and just cuz you dont' like it you don't have to call it rice, thats usually how threads get locked.

The really really easy way to do it is to pop the hood, crank the lights up to where you want them, and then pull the relay for the motors. The lights still go on and off, but they won't go up and down. If you want them to retract, just put the relay back in and its back to normal. I have my fog lights triggered from my park lights, so I don't know if they would be effected otherwise.

This mod isn't for those stupid "sleepy eyes", it's so your pop-ups don't always come up when you turn on the headlights, so you can turn them on and they'll shine through the clear lense (like they're pictured doing on the '90 Talon factory brochure)

For anyone who doesn't know. On a Canadian model, you can just turn the manual headlight motor knob to put the pop up lights into "sleepy mode," without any wiring modifications. Seems obvious, but worth a post.

(obviously, only on 1ga's)

We did that on my friend's pos lude, but as soon as he turned on the headlights and turned them off, it went back to normal.

Sorry, absolutley, you're right. I just do it once and it lasts me until I have to leave the city. But yes, when you turn your lights on, they'll go back to normal. Kinda a pain, kinda ricey, but I like it.

have you tried the chicklet mod on your car? I have an eclipse with no day time driving lights and it worked for me, but i'm wondering if it would work on a canadian model as i havent had a chance to test it out.

We don't need that mod.....really, it's like we don't have a chicklet already.

ya gotta pull the fuse under the dash. It has a foglight signal on it and a seat belt sign on
it. Seat belts will still work. But not foglights.( you've already pulled those for the
intercooler .......right?)

on my car, all i need to do is turn the knob and they'll stay like that when i turn the lights on, no wire mods needed. but you kno how when you turn the head lights on you can also just turn the dash lights on instead of the lights, if i keep it on that for a second and then turn the head lights on they'll go back up all the way. if i turn the knob on the steering wheel quick, (right to the headlights) they'll stay in their position.

I also did this mod but I used the harness from the column switch to hack into.

First find the larger connector (C06 I think) under the "knee panel" coming from the steering column switch (not the ignition switch).

Pin # 14 is a yellow wire that signals the head lights to pop up when they are turned on. Cut this wire, making sure to leave enough room to re-attach if you want it back to stock. Now the headlights don't pop up when theye are turned on, BUT the pop up switch will not work when the headlights are on.

Pin # 5 and Pin # 6 (white/black) the white wire is power to the column switch and the black wire is the output for the pop up switch. Cut both wires and loop each together to eliminate the column switch. Now there is constant power to the pop up switch regardless of weather the lights are on or not. The pop up switch also works with the key off just like stock.

ive searched the threads but im still kinda unclear, (newbness) but i guess what im asken is, whats the best way to do this? i want the actual sleepy eye mod where the pop up lights look all, well, sleepy eyed, i pulled the passenger kick panel and their was like a big white box it looked like a white fuse box almost, so instead of messen with it i decided to get on here and ask you guys, oh yeah i read somewhere that you have to remove the head lamps to get to some sort of knob thingy that makes the lights go up and down when you turn them, if thats the case then i guess im asking when i turn on the lights will they go to that set position and when i turn them off will they go all the way down? any response is appreciated thanks a lot, later
