Sleepy Eyes [Merged 9-7] snake snakeyes half chicklet mod

It is one of the outer pins. I don't remember which one. I chose to bend the pin backwards and reinsert the piece so that the modification is reversible.

I've got the wires cut under the dash but don't have time to dig around right now. I tried but it will take removing the knee panel to get at it. I'm just posting to say give me two weeks and ask again here. I'll dig it up for you then :)

ok here it is.. i did some testing of my own and here is what i found.. if you take the diode out... your head lights wont pop up auto unless you hit the switch and your fog lights wont work.. so what i did was... i left the diode out so i can have the sleepy eyes... then i jumped a wire from the headlight switch (i think green) to the fog light switch..( i think it was green with white stripe), all i did was use a piece of wire and 2 quick connects and now i can have my fog lights on, headlights on, with sleepy eyes, or fog and park lights on, and best of all the fog lights still go out with the hi beams..

I ran constant power to the button, and crossed a white and a black wire under the steering column's knee guard thing. Also ran constand power to fog button so I can put them on whenever I want when the key is in the car.

I did the wires under the dash too. Just cut the black and white wires shown, jump them together and then cut the yellow wire shown. This was all done on the chassis side of the harness. Be careful which black wire you cut. As you can see, the black wire that needs to be cut is on the same side as the white wire. The jumper wire is just looped around the rest so it is confusing to follow.

i just pulled the fuse from under the hood, then manually cranked the headlights to the "sleepy eye" position. High beams work, fog lights work, everything works... except the headlight motors! So when you turn your lights on/off everything is all good except the headlights dont move. Easier for me than cutting wires and all that bs... easially reversable too, just pop the hood, put the fuse back in and the light motors work as they are supposed to.

just a thought here...I read its the black wire at the chiclet that you cut to make htem stay down? Then the rest works but you cannot get the löigths up again?
But if you cut that wire and run it up to a switch at the dash, that way you can turn it on off.
Wouldnt that work just the same way? When you have the switch in ON pos it is the same as stock, in the off pos it would be like you cut the wire to the headlights?
Cant be that hard ?

With the way that I cut the wires under the dash, you can turn the lights on/off but the motors don't move. They only move up/down with the factory switch on the dash. It is very easy to work with. I'll be adding a relay under the dash shortly to make my headlights into daytime runners. They look pretty sweet at dusk with them on and down.

so i am waiting from my custom konis and suspension and i wanted to work on my car so i was checking nuts and bolts and decided that i would do the checklet modd not to put the light s part way up but to just have them be like daily runners down.
okay after reading every thing i could find on here, dsmtalk.com, and google, the vfaq ect i still cant figure it out.
Now im no idiot either its just that the posts available were pathetic in their description and the pics available were bad enough i couldnt figure things out. I figured it would be an obvious easy thing to do, so since i cant find or fiure it out i might just do some rewiring. I spent and entire afternoon on this little thing i thought would only take 5 minutes.
so my conclussion is this; I dont have the chiclet or black wire with the blue stripe.

IS this possible that i dont have the chicklet? is there anyone who could help out. i have become so frusterated that i dont even really care about the mod i just am determined to figure it out, and do a decent write up.

You're going to need an adjustable amplifier that controls the amount of amps going to your headlights, then just turn it down.

I searched here, VFAQ, and 1000Q.

I want to know how to rewire 1g headlights to only pop up when you press the 'pop up' button.

Sometimes i want the lights shining when its not dark out (fog, rain, ect) so other people can see me, but i dont need the headlights to pop up to see ### its not dark. So i'd like to turn them on without having them pop-up. Anyone done this?

I have a pic of the wiring diagram and i think i know what i would do, but if anyone's done it that'd help.

Thanks,
Matt

I forgot which wires, but underneath the steering column you remove the knee panel, cut a yellow wire, cut a black and white wire, and splice the white and black wires together. It's posted up in this forum on which ones to cut.
http://www.dsmprojects.com/gallery/...arage_and_other&image=6&sortby=name&order=asc

This lets you pop them up/down whether the lights are on OR off. I'm also guessing you could somehow integrate a separate on/off flip switch so you can do the sleepy mod.

I couldn't find the info... but it sounds like im on the right track. i simply cut the white wire with reds bands and the headlights came up and not down, so that wasnt the right one!

You could do the chiclet mod instead. Behind the passenger side kick panel is a white diode (the chiclet) you remove that and voila. You control the motors with the pop up switch and lights with the other. When you press the switch turn on the lights at your desired height and they'll stay there. Couldn't find the tuners link but found this one http://www.machvforums.com/showthread.php?p=286868

Chiclet mod is easy and cheap, only down side is that to pop the lights up or down you need to turn the headlights off. Also, your stock foglights won't work any more, unless you rewire them. You can also cut off one of the 'legs' from the chiclet (the one feeding the headlight circuit) and push the chiclet back into the connector after making certain that it won't make any contact at all on that leg... or just snip the appropriate wire, leaving slack so you can splice it back to stock if desired later.. giving you button-controlled popups and stock foglight operation.

I would suggest not doing the chicklet. If you want later on I can find which wires to cut/splice together with pics.

Well I am looking at a 1G TSi AWD (91) and I noticed that the headlights are stuck slightly up. I searched this and found some posts that said something about a fuse had blown? But what would cause the lights to "squint?"

Here is the car domain link

Could be fuse, but you can alway self adjust how the head lights come up. By each headlight under the hood there is a knob under the rubber caps and all you have to in twist until you're happy with where headlight placement is.

So he may have just adjusted them up a bit to give it a distinct look? I think It look kinda cool.

That is called the "sleep eye" mod. Generally people will manually adjust the headlight to stay that way. Others have gone further and have incorporated electric systems (think rheostat) to electronically control the sleepy eye. Either way, I would research that first for your solution on how to put them back to stock.

I know the wires are on the passenger side panel near the front of the door sill. But my question is where is the chicklet because I don't know where it is. I heard you could just disconnect the chicklet or pull it out and the lights would only pop up when you push the button.

It's a small white connector, sometimes electrical-taped to a larger bundle of the harness wires. You'll have to remove the passenger front kickpanel (under the glovebox, the wires are pretty close to the firewall) to get at the chiclet connector. It's the only one in that area with three wires going into a white plug-shaped thing.

here are mine all the way down.
