i had the chiklet mod done since my last post and i enjoyed the control. look up the wiring diagram and look at the diode in the pop up circuit and try to figure out which leg should be cut.

Its not a chiclet, its a diode and doing this mod has no bad effects on anything. Just pull it out and deal with turning the lights on and off to flip or not flip.

If anyone wants, ill post a pic of it from the DSMCD Manual.

Chiclet mod is easy and cheap, only down side is that to pop the lights up or down you need to turn the headlights off. Also, your stock foglights won't work any more, unless you rewire them. You can also cut off one of the 'legs' from the chiclet (the one feeding the headlight circuit) and push the chiclet back into the connector after making certain that it won't make any contact at all on that leg... or just snip the appropriate wire, leaving slack so you can splice it back to stock if desired later.. giving you button-controlled popups and stock foglight operation.

I did the chiclet mod and my fog lights work just as they did before. It is a simple easy mod to control the pop ups[/I]

ok with my lights partly up at all times i forgot that my lights where on!!
so when I got off work I had no juice
I put the fuse back in and I want to figure out how to set the motors to only go half way,
maybe take out some teeth on the gear it should have?

possibly a dead thread but i took the passenger kick panel out and i found a DOOR CONTROL MODULE and i disconnected it and when you lock one door it didnt control the other one.. NOW everyone seems to have said theres a chicklet? Diode? (WHITE BOX) but all i had was a white box that controls the doors so idk what or where to find this "diode" some help would be nice

Is there, just look around. Is a small connector with some kind of white cap (the diode) Is under the triangular plastic cover on the passenger side, just under the feet light. You'll have to probably pull the wires a bit, it uses to be hide.

Ok I KNOW this topic has been covered a million times but I can't seem to find a a thread with updated pics etc, I had ALL of my connections disconnected on the passenger side kick panel and still have NO idea what this "chiclet" looks like. With all the connections disconnected I went thru all of them trying to find some sort of fuse looking thing I could remove and couldn't find anything. If someone could post pics of what the "chiclet" looks like and what to do specifically I would GREATLY appreciate it. I removed the fuse in the motor bay but I don't like it like that because my headlights don't come up at all, and I want to be able to do the "sleepy eye" thing. Sorry if this thread has been made 26340897324 times.

There you go, it can be a little confusing if you have never seen the chiclet or do not remember what it looks like.

I've seen that one before, I don't know which connector it is or where on the connector, I've noticed a gray and a white one that look similar and a small skinny one and a fat one and one thats blue or something.

It should only have three wires leading to the connector and the little "chiclet" is like a fuse, you just pull it out, it is not a wire to wire connector. It should be white and is the size of a "chiclet" (the gum). If you still can not figure it out just unplug one at a time and test the lights. Like I said it can be confusing.

So there is only wires going to it? I seriously saw nothing like that when I had them all out, if someone could post a detailed pic of what it looks like etc it would be much appreciated.

So did anyone ever figure out how to make the headlights go up/down with only the use of the headlight switch WITHOUT having to turn the lights off before popping them up?

The reason I ask is because I just finished my HID setup. My main lighting comes from the foglight location. I have HID projectors mounted down there. They have a great OEM-looking cutoff line, so as not to blind oncoming drivers, and the 4300k bulbs light the road like CRAZY. In my headlights, I just have regular reflector housings, with 4300k HID bulbs. I do not pop them up, so they do not produce glare to oncoming drivers, and throw a little bit of light onto the road. Mainly they are just there so the car doesn't "look weird" driving around with just foglights and no headlights.

What I would LIKE to do is use my headlights as high beams, and point them above the cutoff line of my projectors. The HID's are pretty damn bright when they are popped up, and throw light everywhere. This is really bad for a low beam because I blind everyone on the road, but for a high beam it is GREAT. It would be nice to just hit my headlight button when I'm on a dark country road and have good high beams. And, as some of you may know, it is not healthy for HID's to be switched on and off repeatedly, which is why I dont want to have to turn my lights off and then back on to get them to pop up.

I did... In a week or so I'll find out which wires I cut/crossed/ran power to.

i did this mod on my 90 and i had to disconnect a wire and loop a wire in the harness for the switch stalk. this allowed full control up/down anytime with the pop up, and on/off with the headlight switch. there was no up/down from the headlight switch at all, both the up/down and headlight switch were independent! so this was the correct way to do it and no trickery of which switches to flip first. it also removed functionality of the fog lights so i had to rewire that circuit in the fuse box in the engine bay. i have never seen a "resistor" in the harness for the headlights but i only messed around with the connector right on the steering column for the stalk. i am going to do this again on my '91 so i will post pics of what wire to cut and what wire to loop.

It's more than one wire.
You cut a yellow wire, a white and black wire. You then splice the black and white wires together.

I just did this schematics. I haven't tested yet fully but It should work.

Basically, mod #2 disables the auto pop-up function when turning on the headlamps and mod #1 makes the pop-up switch to work all the time. Those two mods must be done toghether.

Mod #3 (optional) consists in adding an auxiliary switch to cut power to the pop-up circuit whenever You want, so You can set the sleepy eyes as desired. IF not using the fog lights anymore You could rewire the fog lights switch for that #3 mod.

i really don't understand the point of the switch for #3. i guess this time around when i do this mod all i gotta do is remove the diode instead of cut a wire. all i'll have to do is loop those 2 wires on the stalk connector this time.

If You're not going to use fog lights You can remove the diode and skip #2.
#3 is useful to set sleepy eyes. When You turn the regular pop up switch and the lights move, if You turn that #3 switch, then the lights stop moving and rest on that position while You switch back #3 switch. Is just to avoid having to rise the lights manually to the desired position. Obiously the #3 switch mod requires a bit of trial and error to leave the lights rised at desired position.

nevermind i did this mod today. i cut the terminal on the chicklet diode that corresponded to that blue/white wire. for the stalk i cut the white and black, and on the plug side i spliced the white and black, and connected it to the white that goes to the stalk. if you don't do this then your fog lights won't work. the black that goes to the stalk just gets left hanging or cut. you still need the white going to the stalk because that is what feeds the yellow wire which goes to the chicklet diode that turns on your fogs.

Screwing with the chicklet is just unecessary. It's not required to do in order to do this mod.
There's better ways, which can be reversed back to factory without buying a new chicklet.

So doing this will allow full use of my headlight up/down switch, and will also keep my foglight function?? Foglight function is critical, as 90% of my lighting comes from my fogs.

Also, could you give a brief description of where these wires are inside the car? Thanks!!!

Also, this may be a bit of a noob question, but I'm guessing the letter abbreviations next to the wires designates the wire color. Is this correct? If so, what would "GW" be? Green and white? I am by no means a noob when it comes to electronics and schematics, but I dont deal with automotive wiring diagrams very much.
