So I did an oil change not to long ago, and welp it looks like this. It 100% looks worse on camera. But I’m not sure if this is an upcoming death.

This was about a month ago and it still keeps me awake at night LOL. Since then I have driven the car extremely hard and beat on it pretty well through the canyons. I have drained the oil several times throughout to see if there were any shavings but the oil has been spotless clean.

I still have the old oil sitting in my garage and thinking of sending it in for analysis.

I do have a ebay 16g on it so I’m not sure if the yellow flakes is from that.I read a lot of articles on what I should do but just wanted some 2nd opinions.

Looks like when you drain a transmission with bad synchros. Doesn't look like bearing material from rods/mains. Probably from the brass bushings in the turbo. Although strange that it would get picked up by the magnet since brass isn't magnetic, but the "brass" used in a chinese turbo probably isn't pure so could be why it sticks to the magnet.

I would be worried about how much of the material made it up the pick-up tube and thru the oil pump. The gears themselves are much harder than the brass but the case is aluminum and probably got scored some. If your pressure is good I wouldn't worry too much. the oil filter should have caught any other pieces before they made it into the engine so I would really only worry about keeping your eye on the oil pressure to make sure the pump is alright. If you've already beat on it and driven it a bunch you're probably in the clear.

Thanks a lot a friend said something very similar to what you said and that it’s pretty yellow and prob from the turbo. I should probably ditch the eBay junk.

But this was really reassuring. I have an oil pressure gauge coming in, for piece of mind.

But yeah it’s been through complete hell since then and is running alright. Just wanted to make sure I’m not missing any early signs.

Always better not to go with ebay stuff if possible but sometimes it's hard not to. When you see guys successfully running 600 hp LS engines on a 150 dollar ebay GT35 turbos it's like do I really want to spend 600+ bucks on a turbo? Guess it depends on budget and peace of mind. Be interesting to see if something broke in the bushing or if that was just leftover material from machining that wasn't cleaned out.

Welp hopefully it’s the turbo, because this engine has the stock 98k miles and hasn’t had anything machined yet.

That’s why I was a little spooked because it’s not even a new engine and I’m seeing shavings.
