I have a '98 GST Spyder, 5 Spd. I just replaced the clutch and am having some problems shifting. It shifts ok in normal driving, could be smoother, but it's ok. When I get on it and try to shift in high RPMs, it doesnt want to go in gear. It only slides into gear as the RPMs drops. Also, 4th gear jumps out almost every time. Like I said, new clutch, new slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, adjusted the clutch pedal, bleed the clutch. Im out of ideas. Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Usually when you're not going into gear is when the clutch is not engaging right or your tranny is going out so the syncro's are finding it hard to sync.
Also make sure you have the shift linkage CORRECT. If not you will find it harder to get in some gears as I come to find out. After my clutch install 2nd gear is kinda of hard to get in and 4th is resisting.
Hope these tips help. Good luck

Sounds like something inside the transmission is messing up. Do you hear any gear grind?

Sounds like an improper clutch pedal adjustment or poor bleeding. How was the shifting before the new clutch?

I used just a Valvoline 75w-90. But I'm thinking on changing to the Redline stuff I've heard a lot about on the forum. Does the difference in gear oil make that much of a difference? Also, I'm gonna look at the shift linkage and see if there is any issues there. The way it shifts into 4th, it feels like the gear is really shallow and does slip all the way in. Think the linkage is the problem. Still don't know about the hard shifting though. Hopefully it is the gear oil. Thanks for all the useful ideas. Any others?

Just inspected my linkage, think it bent. That explains 4th feeling real shallow and poping out. All I have to do is fix it and get some Redline MT-90 and hopefully that will fix my hard shifting
