Shifter weight that is on the trans/counterweight/hammer head [Merged 10-6]

Good idea about the intake!! I'm going to do the same thing! (for cold air, not for weight transfer)

And yes its fine to ditch the counter weight. Mine is gone and everyone that's driven my car has said its the best feeling shifter they've driven with. I do however have a short shifter and hard shift bushings, so that might mask any issues with no counter weight.
 
I have the symbroski kit, B&M shifter, and abec5 skate bearings in the shift cables under the hood already. Just be sure to properly support the intake when doing this, since I have a 3" VPC style, I am just using a exhaust pipe U-clamp and bolting that to the battery bracket extenion I had to make. And you should keep or alter the splash guard up under there to prevent sucking ANY hot air, and to create a baffle. Guess it gives me something to do this week while im waiting on the external oil cooler parts to come in.
 
Alright, Not sure how to explain this but the Left side shift cable lever has a wieght on it, a big metal thing hangen off of it. Never really thought about it in'till I noticed some 2g's dont have it, or its been removed.

Can anyone tell me WTF its for?
And would it imporve shifting feel a if I removed it?
I just did the solid bushings, so im looking for anythign and everythign to make my car shift easier, feel smoother, anything!

Your advice, suggestions is(are) needed.
