Shifter Bushings [merged] ES symborski shifter plate metal urethane

Anybody have the rre's shifter bushing, I was wondering how that compared up to the symborski shifter bushing.

I just got my symborski kit today and it did not come with installation instructions. I was looking around the net to see if anyone had the install instructions but I didnt have any luck...the install doesn't sound too difficult but my only questions is that since I got 8 bushings, 4 stepped bushings and 4 flat bushings so I am assuming that 1 stepped bushing and one flat bushing go on the corners of the base. Which bushing goes on top and which goes on the bottom??? are they stacked on top of each other?

the 4 steped ones go on top, with the smaller diameter facing down.So it fills the space in between.the 4 flat ones go on the bottom ..

I've just finished installing this kit. The 'U shape Cup' bushing fell off the shifter assembly while i was taking things apart so didn't get a chance to see how it was supposed to be connected. Im guessing that's why i have about 1" of play in every gear if i put it back wrong? Is it supposed to be aligned left to right or top to bottom? i think it's at left to right now..

It's supposed to be top to bottom. I did the same thing when I installed mine, so I ended up with a lot of slop in the gears. What was happening was that it was allowing the shifter to slide back and forth in the slot in the bushing. It's an easy fix though.

Please post a picture of describe more in detail. Is the "slop" side to side or up and down slop? I'm interested because I have side to side slop.

yep changed it to top and bottom. got rid of most of the play but still some left.

With my car 5th gear is not easy to get into quickly. If I shift slowly from fourth (up into neutral and then over and up) it is no problem but I am not able to confidently throw it straight into fifth. It is hard to get it into "the slot," and I have missed and gotten third before. When I am up shifting at high RPMs I want to know that I am not going to overrev my engine, to be able to tell I hit 5th gear. I have narrowed my choices down to either a Megan Racing SSK or Symborski bushings. Sadly I am a poor college student and can only afford one so which, or something else, do you believe would be the most beneficial?

If by "Megan Racing SSK" you mean their short shifter clone of the B&M, I would advise you to start with the Symborski kit and later get the short shifter. If one of your stock rubber bushings were shot, this would cause enough play to cause the shifting problems you're talking about. Later, if you want even better shifter feel, you can install the short shifter, which will tighten up shifting feel in addition to entirely changing how far you have to throw, but honestly, the Symborski will "fix" what Mitsu got wrong in the first place.

Yeah, that is the truth. The Symborski kit is very easy to install, and it is well worth the money.... Some people on Ebay sell knock offs, claimings they wont rust and what not, but they are cheap washers that are plated. Go with the real thing, and you wont be sorry. Get the Cable solid steel bushings too, they both go hand in hand, especially with short throws.... I have had it for a while now, and its great, even other people that feel around my short throw, they are amazed at how smooth and precise it is...

Forgot to mention: If the Symborski kit doesn't stiffen up your stick (sounds dirty, eh?) I would then do the underhood bushings, as Dragon TalonTSi mentioned. Some vendors sell steel or brass bushings; other DSM'ers just go with a set of rollerblade bearings. I went with the rollerblade bearings and noticed about a 10% better feel, but this was after the Symborski kit and B&M short shifter had been on my car for a while, so the difference in feel may be felt more without these two modifications. So, in the order I would do them: Symborski kit, shifter cable bushings/bearings mod, then short shifter. If all three of those don't solve your problem to your liking, you may need to re-adjust your shifter cables.

I initially went with the rollerblade bearings. I got them from a vendor, as a kit with two bearings tack welded together. When I went to press them in, the welds broke on both sets, so I only had one bearing on each cable. A couple months down the road, I said F-it, and just went with the solid metal block kit. The bearings were siezed into the cables, so I had to really herk on them to get them out. The solid kit was a drop in, and came with its own C-clips. I reccomend going with those to begin with.

I also got the Symborski bushings, which helped out a lot. Then I got a B&M short shifter, set it at 50%, and have never looked back.

I am getting a little bit of play when it's in gear though, so I'm going to pull the console apart again and make sure everything is still tight.

Yeah, I bought the Cable Bushings, that were TIG welded they said, and they almost broke on me too. If I could have bought the brass ones or the block ones, I would have. But the Symborski, Cable Bushings, and the Short throw, man, that is a great combination, and I love every minute of it. It only takes a few minutes to adjust the cables, so dont worry, trust us, you cant go wrong. Every short shifter will work, not just B&M. OBX, some knock offs I hear work great (Ebay), but do your searching on those products. We have done the homework, and trial and tested the products, and we are completely satisfied with them. I hope it comes out great for you...

I am bringing this back from the dead for a quick question. mach v says that you can use the symborski kit with a b&m shifter right? my question is do you still use the symborski tube with the new shifter? that tube is all that sets the symborski kit apart from most of the other cheaper kits so I'd like to know.

You no longer use the tube since the B&M has it's own shifter pivot system. And you don't need something fancy that says Symborski or RRE. A trip to the washer and bolts section at home depot will do nicely and you won't spend more than 2 dollars.

You no longer use the tube since the B&M has it's own shifter pivot system.

I used the tube when i installed my B&M shifter and shift kit.

It's no longer necessary since the B&M bolts as a stationary piece to the shift base.
