Shifter Bushings [merged] ES symborski shifter plate metal urethane

Anybody have the rre's shifter bushing, I was wondering how that compared up to the symborski shifter bushing.

I wouldn't know where to even find the bearings that you speak of, let alone what size.

The bearings are from a skateboard or roller blades and can be found at any skate shop or sporting goods store (and possibly even toy stores). And there is only one size.

When I bought mine 4 years ago, they were much cheaper. I paid less then $20 shipped. Nonetheless, it's an easy buy, and affordable. I wouldn't know where to even find the bearings that you speak of, let alone what size. But, for the budget conscience DSMer, I guess DIY would be better.

AFIK Jon recommends the bearing mod. You can get them at your local Ace Hardware. It really is amazing how well they fit, it is like they were meant to go there from the factory.

Just a quick note from me.

My brother has had the Symborski shift kit from MachV installed for almost a year now. When I looked at the bushings last week I noticed they were all rusted pretty badly. Now this isn't really a big deal or anything but obviously 'not rusty' is better than 'rusty'. The bushings that SpeedSource sells are made of aluminum so I would think that rust would not be an issue with them. They are also "Alodine coated to give them a nice corrosion resistant gold finish." I'm not trying to push these bushings or anything, just something I noticed.

Would regular washers that fit work for now, until I get the kit (Yeah, yeah, I'm poor, laugh it up), or should I just put up with my shifter until the mailman brings me the package?

I had Symborski in my car, loved it. Smooth shifting everytime.

I noticed that in the Symborski kit you get that extra peice that goes through the shifter fork. I installed an Energy Suspension Polyurethane kit in my shifter and the kit only came with the 4 shift plate peices and nothing for the shifter fork.

How important is it to the feel of the shifter to have that extra piece? I really don't want to shell out $35 just for one piece of metal.

I need some help, i bought a Syborski shifter kit and short shifter for a 2G, i was wondering if anybody could direct me to a site that has installation instructions for the Syborski shifter kit and a short shifter.

hmmm...I was just about to post the same link... Anyways Watch out for that Fidanza short shifter, Mine snapped at the base. The weld broke, So I took it off and rewelded the piece that broke. Maybe 2 months later it broke AGAIN but in another spot. I removed it and layed new welds all over that thing. So far so good. Both times this happened while driving!! and both times I had to rip the shift boot open with hands to shift it back in a lower gear to get home, Then broke out my sewing skills and sewed that sucker back up...only to do it again.

Yea, I know. I picked it up at SEMA in Atlantic city about 3 years ago at the Fidanza booth.

I have seen a few solid shifter bushing kits on e-bay that sell for less than the Symbroski kit. They are short the shifter sleave, i am not the one that likes to take apart something that has a wound spring, chances of not getting it back togather correct are high.

I don't have a 2G, but put a set of Symborski solids on mine and made a good difference. Just my two cents.
