Anybody have the rre's shifter bushing, I was wondering how that compared up to the symborski shifter bushing.

I had a B&M Edge short shifter in my ride for 2 years, and one day it broke (the bolt that hold the shift lever to the pivot adapter (anodized blue part). I temporarily had to throw in the stock shifter (while waiting for the new proprietary bolt from B&M) and I like the ease of shifting with the stock unit a lot better. I mean yes, the B&M does make a drastic decrease in shift throw distance, but it was a pain to get it into gears! It was a damn workout. So I get the bolt from B&M but I'm-a-like-in' the stock shifter a lot more. OK, so what I was wondering was-will the prothane/energy suspension shifter bushing kit make any difference at all? By the packaging it seems as if it just consists of the bushings for the shift plate only...which I already rigged to make stiffer. If it's not worth the $20 or so, any tips on getting this B&M shifter to shift more smoothly? I mean, I spent $150 or so on the B&M kit and I'd really like to use it...I just wish it was as smooth as the stock "cardio-glide" shifter.

...and yes, I did install it right (B&M).

The B&M isn't built for smoothness it is built for performance. there is probably no way to make it smoother however since I have the solid bushings and short shifter I know where and how to get my car into gear easily because it is the same EVERY time unlike the stock shifter which moved around too much for me.

What's up guys? I was wondering if there were any aftermarket shifter bushings for a 1st gen Eclipse  ? I think mine need replacing.
Thanks

i think the actually bearing is a 608z or 608zz skateboard bearing, you can get them from ebay for a couple dollars,or they have premade kits with the bearings and washers for like 10-20 dollars.

Yup i got mine for 10 bucks shipped,it takes like 10 minutes to install,i did these along with the el cheapo version of the shifter plate bushing(washers),and it does shift better, but i still grind on 2nd on a cold tranny.

Sorry i dont know if this is already a craze or not since i've been on a couple year hiatus from tweaking with my car, but tonight as i was changing my o2 sensor i got sidetracked with my shifter bushings on the linkage that leads into the tranny.. i noticed the bushings were not looking so hot, broken apart etc.. and i got a wild idea to try to put some roller blade bearings in there.. by some stroke of luck i found 1 roller blade wheel with 2 "abec 5 "(for all you skaters LOL) bearings.. i pressed them into the eyelets and put it back together... the shifter has an AWESOME feel to it now, so i recommend this mod to anyone with a little free time and some unused roller blades on their hands.. this is definately my favorite free mod i've ever done..

Under the hood shifter bushings make a difference. However, the bushings that actually go into the shifter make the biggest difference. You should get those as well, it will cure 90% of the shifting problems with these cars.

I just got my short shifter and i was wondering if i should get bushings for it. And was wondering what the best ones to get are and where from?

Yeah that link has both of them. They can also be found everywhere on ebay as well. There are 4 bushings that the shifter plate sits on and the 2 that are on the end of the cables that attach to the transmission. The OEM ones are rubber and allow for less vibration and a softer feel. The aftermarket units create a better feel by tightening things up so you can shift with confidence.

i heard that the bushings down by the transmission tightens it up a lil too much, especially if you're driving it a lot. the people i talked to about it all took theirs right off. i just have the shifter plate bushings and im very satisfied with just that...its the symborski shifter kit you can find on http://www.machv.com/symshifkit1.html .

Hey guys I recently purchased both sets of shifter bushings from Speed-source.net. I'm kinda stumped on the underhood bushings though.

"Mitsubishi cable shift transmissions have an "upper" and "lower" shift cable. The upper cable is horizontal, while the lower is vertical. The lower bushing is identified by an "L" on it, and has a slightly larger hole. If the left-right action seems stiff, you might have installed the wrong bushing on the lower cable."

So the one that points down towards the ground is the "lower" link correct?

Also it says something about: "for extra tight shifter fel, remove the bellcrank lever so that you can remove the little square slider that actuates the shifter rod. This is often very worn from years of use. Rotate it 90 degrees and re-assemble."

Has anyone done this before? I could use a little help :(

I'm not to sure on this, what hole exactly are they saying is larger, the hole that the bushing fits into or the hole in the bushing that the part from the trans fits into? I guess the parts thats confusing is that as far as I know the holes on both shift cables are the exact same. I used ball bearings (like the kind for skateboard wheels) and are obviously both the exact same size and everything fit correctly. Maybe a pic of what their talking about may help.

I just went with skate bearings as well. Two speed-skate bearings (Black Panther ABEC 7) cost me six bucks, and just took about fifteen minutes and a c-clamp to install them both. Shifting was dramatically improved, even though my stock rubber bushings don't look worn at all.

I also went with skateboard bearings. Cost me nothing since I found them in my basement. Took a little while since I had to take my battery tray and intake out since I have the 420A. Shifting was improved 100% in my opinion.

The square slider is not square and when you rotate it 90 degress it won't fit - I've tryed it (See: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127331&highlight=bellcrank+degrees). BTW I also use the skateboard bearings which fit perfectly and work great.

anyone have pictures of where to put the skateboard bearings. i have 2 boards so i can take a couple bearings from one. sorry for my newbness. i just never had a manual car or swapped bushings. also how do the bushings on the shifter base help?

Replacing those is just another level of improved shift feel, some peep's like it, some think its either a waste or a little too much feedback. I like it, & went a step further by replacing the little isolators on the bracket that mounts the cables to the trans. housing with aluminium ones. :sneaky:
