So my shift linkage snapped and I'm going to attempt to do the work myself.

I have a 2g Talon 5 speed, and I'm wondering how much of the dash do I need to remove to have enough access to be able to feed the new cable through?

Mine is a 1G but it feeds through the shift tunnel. Have you had your console apart to visually see where the cable feeds through at? Mine wouldn't be hard but maybe yours is different since it's a 2G. It's not a terribly hard job but probably requires you to get under your car to see the grommet it feeds through. I would tie the new cables to the old ones and pull them through the console then attach them to the shifter and to the transmission.

Also nice to meet a fellow Kansas DSM'er!! I'm in the southeast corner. :)

If I remember correctly, you'll need to remove the passenger side panel (to unbolt the bracket on the firewall) and the center console (to unbolt the linkage at the shifter). In my case, once everything was unbolted, I pulled the cables through the cabin - not through the engine bay. It's pretty straightforward, you shouldn't have too much trouble with it.

Remove the side panels and the center console. You should then be able to access the shifter and cables there. It shouldn't be too difficult of a job.
