shift linkage help

ok so i was driving my car... tried to down shift into 3rd.. it wouldnt go into 3rd so i just put it into 4th.. continued to drive had to downshift to stop.. stopped, starteded driving again and i couldnt shift into 2nd ### it was really loose and wouldnt enguage, then it wouldnt enguage into 4th either... now its gotten so bad that its permenantly enguaged in 5th gear... the shifter will go up and down freely from 5th to Reverse... my clutch will disenguage the tranny and then reenguage it when pushed in and released.... i had to drive in 5th so i dont think its the tranny ### i was still able to drive just fine... i called my friend he said it should be the shift linkage... anyone have anyother ideas.. and a way to fix it???

I would check to make sure your shifter cables are still attached firmly to the shifter linkage. There will be 2 clips (one for each cable) that hold them to the linkage. See the blue area in the attached photo as to where it'd be and what it'd look like:

If those are tight, check underneath your center console where your shifter connects to your cables and make sure those are connected/tight. One of mine came off once and I hada similar problem.

the shifter cable was attatched from the linkage... thanks for the help it was really useful
