Can these be sanded down without adverse affects?

I don't think this is the right area for your post, but I believe you can although I am fairly certain that they are tar like and won't sand very well. I believe if you look in the DSM journals for Calan's build journals that he addresses what it took to get paint to stick to the beads, which is the direction I would go because the factory put them there for a reason.

Yep. The sealing beads are some type of cork/putty material, and a complete PITA to deal with. It is a completely different material than anything I've seen on other cars. (More info here).

Be sure to test any paint that you want to use in an inconspicuous area first, as some types/brands of paint will never dry on that stuff.

i only recommend removing the sealant if you are going to be cutting down weight, stiffening the body (stich welds) and not driving the car on wet days. its to prevent water getting inside the car and from the joining sheet metal from rusting.

I've done some more research and I've found sandable seam sealers. Most are also compatable with autobody paint. Im going to try to remove the oem seal and tape off for a small smooth faded seal.

Great advice on the paint, wished Id thought of that when I painted my bay damn paint is still tacky on the putty seams. But over all looks great

When sanding some parts of my bay I removed some of it, and some was already coming off of it, does anyone know of where I could get this stuff to seal all the places back up?

After calan seem to poke a lil fun at me I decided to see what I was getting myself into. This is going to be easier than I thought but still time consuming. I made this very dangerous razor tool. It cuts to the metal great! I used a polishing wheel to try to remove more but it doesn't clean the joint out. Im going to buy a wire wheel to clean the joint out. Ill keep you guys updated but seeing how its going to rain for the next month in Ohio im going to wait for the good weather so I don't seal the moisture in. Ill upload the photos later.
