I couldnt find any posts on installing a scatter shield.

So here it goes.....

Car is a 1990 AWD Turbo.

I had to remove the waterpipe inorder to get the shield into place.

Unblot the ground wire from the starter bolt, it bolts to the scatter shield now.
The shield goes under the starter wires.

So I got the shield on.

but it doesn't quite clear the water pipe.
Its hard to see but it is a 1/16th" away from the block as well as to high.

I'm not sure how I'm going to get it to fit.

I can either bend the small pipe to get it around the shield, but it might crack since its so close to the joint.
or
I'll redrill the mounting hole and then put a washer behind the mounting tab to take up the space.

Any suggestions?

You sure they sent you the right one? I know that some of them have a cut out right there just for that reason.

I dont know, there was no invoice or instruction or anything to really identify it.

I could remove it and cut it away with the angle grinder.WTF

The way the 6bolt front water pipe sits you have to either cut out a small area of the scatter sheild in that area or you cut the water pipe weld the bend down further back along the block and then work out some custom radiator hose ordeal. Me and my buddy have had to go through this is our TRE scatter sheilds. If you try and force them together it cause the scatter sheild to rub the lower radiator pipe causing it to swell and to overheat.

I sugguest cutting the shield for clearance.

Allright thanks, guess I'll notch the scatter shield right there.

The big part of the water tube clears fine, its just the little tube that goes back to the heater core that is hitting.

Thanks guys!

Sorry for the late reply.

You have the right one.

The models that have the notch cut in them are the 2G models. The water pipe on a 2G is much closer to the head.

The water pipe is very soft and can very easily be bent or spaced out slightly from the head/block if more room is needed.

Old thread but I'll keep it going. I just my Three Speed SSSS last night on my FWD 1g. The install was a pain the butt because of the water pipe. I was finally able to loosen the water pipe bolt and bend the pipe up out of the way. It took a hammer and a jack to get it all the way into place. Hopefully I won't ever need it, but it's on there just in case.

Here it is on with the mangled water pipe:
