Saving gas [Merged 3-8]

Alright, our gas prices here locally have sky rocketed like there is no tommorrow. So I have a question, I dont make much money so I wanna save as much gas as possible.

Say im going up a hill about 7% upgrade and im doing about 80km/h (50mph?), in 5th gear to keep it constant im running at 2500rpm and 4-5psi boost, in 4th gear im at 3000rpm and 13inHg in Vaccum. Which one of these will give me better gas mileage, lower rpm in small boost or little bit higher rpm in vaccum.

Wait.... 4psi?? I thought you coudlnt go below the stock boost. Which i THOUGHT was around 8-10 psi?

I live in DE, and for some reason the gas in jersey is alot cheaper... every time i would drive across the bridge i would make sure i had 1/4 tank and fill up as soon as i got to the " Flying J" which is where i found gas to be the cheapest, which is also maybe 2-3 miles from the bridge maybe less.

What I've been doing recently is filling up only halfway. I find that I use less gas this way. I always commute to and from school in NY and at the weekend I drive back to NJ. I found whenever I filled up, by the end of the week, I'll be a little under half tank. Now only filling up half tank, it lasts me all the way through the week with a little bit left over.

Remove any many things that you can live with. Ex. A/C, Power Steering, ABS, Cruise Control etc.

Ah.... that's because the gas gauge isn't linear. However, it's a perfect demonstration of why "Miles Per Tank" is absolute rubbish.

Set your tripmeter and come back with Miles Per Gallon.

You'll see it doesn't matter how much you put in your tank.

I was told this once before and not sure if its true -
It doesn't matter what rpm its at, what matters is your throttle position. Meaning the more you push it down (injecting fuel) the more gas your using (duh) but if your at 1/4 throttle in 3rd at 3500rpm and 1/4 throttle in 4th at 2800 rpm is the same amount of fuel rite?

Someone told me that along time ago and im not sure to believe them, anyone wana help me out?

The lowest possible throttle input as well as the lowest rpm will usually net the best gas milage. The faster an engine turns (rpm) the more fuel you are going to use.

When an engine's driving a car, it has to deal with load, acceleration (up and down), and how much time the driver wants to allow for a given circumstance. Those mileage numbers CSX Railroad give in the TV commercials? It's because a train doesn't do much to change speeds once its moving, they don't accelerate at anything like a car's rate, and their routes are as level as can be finangled over the surface of the planet.
The less you can change speeds, and the more time you can spend doing it, the more distance you'll get from a quantity of fuel.

DSMs, and most fuel-injected engines, recirculate the gasoline continuously. It doesn't need heating.

Yeah I was referring to the gas station tanks.
