Alright, our gas prices here locally have sky rocketed like there is no tommorrow. So I have a question, I dont make much money so I wanna save as much gas as possible.

Say im going up a hill about 7% upgrade and im doing about 80km/h (50mph?), in 5th gear to keep it constant im running at 2500rpm and 4-5psi boost, in 4th gear im at 3000rpm and 13inHg in Vaccum. Which one of these will give me better gas mileage, lower rpm in small boost or little bit higher rpm in vaccum.

the further down ur gas pedal the more gas u gonna use...
floor it at every light...fill up more...
push it only a little down and go further

On several cross country trips I have made 43 miles per gallon during several stretchs. Driving from Salt Lake City to Kansas City with the wind blowing from the west and this is with a 91 Talon AWD (turbo) Automatic transmission.

Not to sound like a d*ck but how did you get 43MPG ON AN AWD TALON?!? I've driven 65MPH between cities for about 2 years nearly every day. My 4 cylinder MX-3 pulled an amazing 38MPG usually on the highway. The AWD turbo is lucky to ever see anythign over 25 (I never have) I'm not calling you a liar; I'm just saying it seems impossible since my MX couldn't touch 40MPG. If that were the case then Geo Metros should be pulling in the 70's.

mabey he just pulled it behind another car

higher gear gives u better gas mileage. My uncle used to have an aftermarket MPG gauge we found the sooner you got it into the high gear the better your mileage was period. however this was in his early 80's bimmer and it was not turbo so i do not know how boost will affect this but we found that even if you were "lugging" the car it got better gas mileage in the high gear then the gear below it. this is just my experience, later all

over the past couple weeks I've done a fairly extensive tune up: act2600 clutch, act streetlite flywheel, afc2, release fork, shimmed pivot ball, tie rod end, allignment, radiator, upper and lower radiator hoses, plug wires, O2 sensor, pcv valve, pcv hose, injector seals, afpr, intake leak test, and compression test.

I went on a trip this weekend to my uncles in Chapel Hill, NC, and i got home in Baltimore MD on one tank of gas. thought i would share the mileage results.

346.2 miles
13.54 gallons
25.57 mpg
average speed of about 75mph, if you dont factor in the hour long stop-and-go traffic jam outside of Richmond.

I was getting about 20-21 mpg highway. So change those O2 sensors if there are old, check for intake leaks, and start saving money on gas. 93 octane prices has us all bent over!!

Good point, DSMs can be quite thrifty in gas mileage if running properly, with all things considering. How much are you paying for gas up there? We are sitting on about $2.40-2.50 down here in FL. But then again, I can get 100 octane aviation gas for $2.61 whenever I need. :)

Ok, so how would you go about achieving 26-28mpg, with a cyclone intake mani or what? I'd like to say i get almost 30mpg, just for bragging rights...

All i got it full exhaust and a high flow cat and i get 26mpg on highway going from Gainesville to Miami at about 75mph. i want to be able to hit 28-30 range thoug, dunno if leaning out the mixture with an AFC will help.

The best I have recorded was about 214 miles to a full tank. I already know I need a o2 sensor. Leak test completed, and turned out fine. I might do a Fuel Filter. I have new plugs and wires. But still get crappy mileage.

the best Ive gotten is 214 for like 11.5 gallons. I know my gauge is messed up, but still. My old modded gst running pig rich and untuned would usually reach close to 400 miles to a tank :rocks: . But now with a/t and awd it kinda blows, especially when I pay 2.60 a gallon for 93 octane :barf:

You can't lean it out, the 02 sensor will adjust for what it wants. If I lean it out -3% the 02 sensor will richen it up 3% LOL

WOT that's a different story.

Wish we got 93 for 2.60. I think its about 2.75 for 91 over here, so I just use the n/t.

I avg. about 26 mpg when I go out of town. It is MUCH less, IF I do a few 140+ mph pulls though..... :sneaky: It is ALL in the tuning....

gas here in kansas is $2.38, and the best we get is 92 octane from bp.

25.57 mpg is good, but you can do better. On a trip from NY to Rhode island and back about a month ago i did 414 miles with about 2 gallons to spare left in the tank, all on a extremely dirty intake filter. YES 29 MPG @ 70-80 MILES AN HOUR.....ONLY BOOSTING 3-5 TIMES MOMENTARILY. I have a fuel mods (see profile) and not even one minute of any kind of tuning. I dont have an EGT or AFR gauge or havent dyno tuned the car yet. Im still in the process of finishing my tune up. I get about 21mpg locally.

my tire pressure was damn near 40psi in front and about 35 rear
93 octane (2.50 in NY)

gas went down today so its only $0.984/litre for 94 which if my math is right is some thing like $4.85 a gallon :barf: :notgood:

make that 3.25 a gallon got my conversions all backwards

Hopefully you guys get a higher minimun wage, right? For that much I would look into seeing how much race gas costs, maybe you can get a good deal.
