Safc II

Well, my 2G came with one. I had a safc II in my Srt-4 and it was wonders to tune with but is it really good for DSM's? Ive had a few local people with dsm's tell me to take it out and sell it. Is there a better way to tune DSM's? *StreetTune* Them/ Or will the Safc II do just fine?

AFC is basically a beginners tuning device(no timing control ). There are better, but obviously more expensive. DSMlink for example, is a very strong tuning device, with many great features and built in datalogger, but is much more expensive(i use the dsmlink example because it basically is the BEST tuner for DSM's). It really depends on what your mods are, or plan to be(meaning fill out your profile).

Yup, I agree with Jeff. Safc is a basic tune setup for a piggy back. Other ways are more expensive. So depending on the setup you have, or what to go with. I'm running an SAFC on my gsx. Its alright -_-. Still prefer a dsmlink. Oh yea btw, you can reflash your ecu to any map you want. Just a heads up

I have a 20g on the way. im already cammed with the supporting fuel mods. do you think the safc will do for now or go with a dsmlink?

A 20g flows pretty good meaning you MUST have big injectors(and generally the fuel to back it up), afc's generally are maxed out with 650's, so yes look into DSMlink(or should i say ECMlink?).

If your 98 still has the stock ecu, you can now reflash it with an openport 2.0 cable.
If you sell your SAFC II, it will just about cover the cost of the cable and software.

And for less than half the cost (and native 97+ support) Ecuflash and EvoScan with an openport 2.0 cable gives it a run for it's money.

Who the hell says that an safc can't control injectors bigger than 650cc's ? Are you serious ?
My buddy, which currently owns a 97 tsi awd, had a previous srt4 with 750 injectors, gt40, and other mods, and tuned with an safc2 and his car ran really good, he could of squeezed more with a better tuning device, but nionetheless it was possible, not to mention he knows how to tune the safc really well.
It pisses me off when people with no hand-on experience or hard proof say that it won't do well over 650cc's, tell that to me or my buddy !

To the OP, yes the safc or safc2 will work good for your 20g setup.

With my 60-1 turbo set up on my old srt-4, i had 850cc injectors and my car was tuned with a SafcII. it worked perfectly fine but every car is different so that's why i asked. Im pretty sure it will do just fine with a 20G but when your tuning strait from the ECU, you can get more precise with the tune. I'll let you guys know what my Local mitsu tuner thinks.

The SAFC is meant to reliably control +50/-50% of the stock injector size.
I'm sure 720's would be fine in that range, but getting out of the 700's is going to start causing extremely rich conditions down low under little to no throttle. While you can do it the results are defintely not going to be optimal.

Furthermor the AFC is a good tuning tool if you're never going to use bigbig injectors and get into bigger turbos. I'd say it's fine for street tuning any MHI turbo.

Chaning from the AFC to something like SD/MAP etc is defintely the better choice using DSMLink, Ostrich etc.. and being able to control the timing etc. Blows the AFC outs the water.
