I spoke with Robert at RRE, and it appears that I will be getting a set of spherical bearing upper plates for the front and rear. I'll most likely get the Ground Control coilover kit unless I feel like getting grooves machined into the stock Koni yellows. I have some questions so that I can make sure I get everything I need.

1) I would like to get the Koni 25mm coaxial upper spring perch (part #80.0000.0007) with the 2.25" to 2.5" adapter (part $15.29.04.003.0). Will I need a spacer of some sort between the upper mount plate and the upper spring perch?

2) I read somewhere that the with the rear mount plates I will need spacers for the upper control arm. I've not found anymore information on that issue. Can anyone clarify?

Thanks in advance.

So another option would be to go with the Vorshlag upper spring perch. They can be made to accommodate Koni shafts. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tein's pillowball upper mount plates should be able to be used in place of the RRE plates, as long as you get a flanged sleeve bearing (14mm ID, 18mm OD, 14mm Length) to center the Koni shock.

Any upper spring perch would work as long as it fit the koni shaft. I like the look of the Vorshlag perch though. Is that a bearing in the plate. If so no only would the Torrington bearings on the base of the springs let it rotate, if there is a bearing in the upper spring perch it would rotate more freely. The Tein pillowball plates look nice and are sperical plates with camber correction, which is not needed but could be used. So with the Vorshlag upper perch, or any upper perch to fit the koni, some stand offs and the Tein mount plate or RRE plate, if they're sperical plates, looks like we could be in business to a good suspension setup. I'm still trying o figure this out myself. Soon as I get mine ready to put together, I going to make a build thread for them using what I use.

Keep in mind that the Teins only have camber adjustment for MacPherson struts, which means a 1G only gets camber adjustment in the front, and 2G's don't get camber adjustment at all.

The vorshlag spring hats do come with a bearing on top, so you probably don't actually need a standoff or spacer with that spring perch. Another advantage of the Teins is that they are cheaper compared to the RRE plates. Though I'm not sure what the RRE plate comes with, I'll have to call them this afternoon.

Maybe the issue with spacers is more specific to your configuration, but I have no spacers of any kind using RRE's plates on my KW Variant 3 coilovers in the rear. Knowing how the rear suspension is I'm not sure where or how you'd use spacers for any purpose.

The stand off would still be needed to keep the spring perch off of the mount plate. The spacer I thinks was being talk about because it would be use to fit the Koni for the vorshlag perch.
TSiAWD666 Do you have any good pics of your setup?

This is almost like the setup. However different Mounting hats can be used and different spring perches.

Does the KW V3 have coaxial spring hats? If it does not, then we're talking about a totally different setup. It also depends on the kind of spring hat you have. For example, the Vorshlag upper perch has a bearing on top which acts like a spacer between the spring perch and the upper mount plate. Where as the Koni upper spring perch does not have any kind of mechanism like that, while not likely, there is a off chance that without the spacer the upper mount plate will not deflect properly.

I was also talking about a flanged sleeve bearing being necessary for the Tein pillowballl upper plates to fit correctly to a 14mm Koni shaft.

I figured you were referring to spacing issues with the hats and plates, but didn't see how they would relate to the upper control arms, and thus thought you were asking a question only about using the rre plates alone (rather than rre plates + coaxial hats).

I don't have coaxial hats, so please disregard my useless information :)

I don't have a good pic at all I'm embarassed to say. The day he flew in to install my suspension pieces was such a nightmare of a day my dslr took only a handful of pics and oddly enough NONE were of the coilovers. I have a crappy iphone pic of the rear which I guess I didn't even bother focusing, yeesh.

Your information is not useless at all. We just had to clarify the situation better. I'm sure that pillowball mounts get the job done 99%, but the springs are still experiencing some bending forces on them, which translates into bending forces on the shock. I figured I would figure out the proper setup before I blew too many shocks.

I think the best option will be to go with the RRE plate, which includes upper and lower standoffs, and the Koni upper spring perch w/ 2.5" adaptor, as that will be the closest to Dennis Grant's design. Unless you want to machine the parts yourself, of course.

Did RRE they you they come with all that? When I talked to them they replied with the pic below and said " you get what you see here." I already have the standoffs that my brother machined and his friend is working on the plates but if the RRE plates will work I would buy them just in case the others don't work out.
eltoshan- are you about to put your setup together? I would like to see some pic s of it when you get it together.

Yeah RRE told me that they come with standoffs. They also only have the plates machined right now, and told me it will take a couple of weeks to get the bearings and finish the plates.
