Alright quick question, car has not started for a long time due to head replacement. I bought a felpro headgasket, i have had it torqued down 3 times. The first time the car jumped time and bent valves. I didnt drive it this was on a rev when i put the car back together(didnt tighten the tensioner pulley bolt)...Ok i reused it after i built another head..car wont crank, I bought another head and had it at the machine shop and everything redone(Everything)..SAME gasket, car dosnt crank...replaced everthing on the car that could cause it not to crank and still no crank. car now has ARP's but still wont crank...Did a compression test and came back with 60-50-50-50 4-3-2-1. Theres my problem, none of the pistons were cracked at all, could reusing this gasket cause this...

I just put it on, and started bolting the manifold back on...its dark out so i should be able to finish tomorrow, hopefully. When i get out the shower i will post pictures of the hg i took out. its not blown its just imprinted from the last head job and wasnt sealing..give me a minute tho

I had the same issue, but my problem is how do you get the head to sit down evenly?

Get your head shaved down so that it is evenly flat all the way across. Also torque the head bolts/studs down evenly..and walah:thumb:

now i know you have to replace those type of gaskets once you remove the head, but i also have to agree that by having such low compression across the board like that, there is another issue, besides the h/g. how do you know that there are no bent valves? did you have them pulled apart this last time?
did you just "look" at them and think they are ok?

also make sure even if the timeing marks are on, you may have both cams 180 out.
even the junk headgasket, and the arp studs, , the gasket still has the metal ring around each cylinder, and that ring is the most used for compression. so, once you torqued down the last time, it sealed those rings on the h/g. the rest of the headgasket is to keep the opther fluids from mixing.

there is another problem there , somewhere

not at all...I fully understand what u are saying. If both dowel pins are facing up then theres no way that both cams are 180* out, just impossible. The head was rebuilt, this head never jumped time, belt never broke nothing. These valves are dead straight. One thing i did notice is that, on my intake and some exhaust valves there was blow by on the gasket. Like when the spark plug ignited it blew some of the burnt gas out from the headgasket. Im definetly sure its the head gasket. Plus with a leaking HG as bad as mine was, and a cold engine def could give me those low compression numbers easily

The outline print is not from this head but the head that bent valves. mind you two different heads were on this gasket

I hadn't realized until now why people call the dsm crowd a bunch of cheap assses.... And I have been doing these dsm's for a while.

1 composite gasket...3 re-uses... 2 different heads

NICE

LOL......cheap my ass, expensive thats why it was re-used, unless u plan on buying me new ones from here on out. Ok thank u

my car just went through kinda similar thing - hole in radiator, drove on for 2 miles way too hot, no compression & so on.

my compression was exact same as yours 60, then all others at 50. had cheap ass ebay head gasket in (i know, never again). gasket looked shot, so i bought arps, factory gasket, put her back together. fired right up (she does run fine at that psi, just not flowing enough to spool up turbo). my compression was hardly up at all.

someone on tuners suggested "wet" compression test. don't know what your milage is, i looked & someone asked but i didn't see your response. i have 192,XXX miles on stock rings. the wet test you pour capful of oil in sparkplug hole & if your compression goes up a lot, its supposed to be telling you your rings are bad.

my compression went from 60 psi to about 160 psi. got her head back off & about to get the oil pan off with new rings waiting. id replace your head gasket if its been compressed that many times & check your rings.

Those composite hg's ive never tryed to reuse. But MLS gaskets ive reused plenty of times. And you should of done a wet compression test and leak down. You stated that you just put a new head on, it is a real possabilty the machine shop forgot too or incorrectly lapped the valves in. Or the valves they installed had a very slight bend in them. You never know.....

you have an update yet????????????

yea left work, did the timing job then the sun beat me. It got dark. Now im just putting the intake, uip, and radiator back on. I still have to charge my battery. It should be up and runing by friday or sat. I will definetly let you guys know.

I know its not that bad. Due to this reason(not cranking) everything has been replaced with brand new parts. So basically the whole top half of the engine is brand new. 0 miles.

Update....Everything is back together, im just waiting to pick up my mpi relay tomorrow. Another question has pondered to my upcoming. I didnt change the pins at the ecu, I swapped the blue wires to the igniter. Do i still have to swap the pins at the ecu for the injectors or should it be good to go? Im using a 1g cas.

update

Update!!! Still no start. Better compression havnt done a test i know because the needle jumps at starting. Before it would never jump. Black smoke was coming out my exhaust, spark on all four with 1g cas, getting fuel to the rail but i am runing very low and the car is tilted on jack stands. Still NO START. Im in need of serious help, or it will be sold
