Hello everyone,
Well, I'm returning to the DSM crowd! I had sold my 1997 Eclipse GST a couple months ago to my friend. I owned it for 4 years and it was my pride and joy but i sold it to a friend because i wanted something newer. It's been months of looking at Mustangs, SRT4s, and WRXs and i gotta say...I miss my old DSM. So today i went out and made my purchase. A Silver 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX with 77k miles on it. It was a one owner car from an old guy and the carfax showed up clean. I paid $5500 for it :hellyeah: I will most likely be putting up some pictures this weekend to show everyone. It's bone stock too. My old GST had 93k miles on it and it was a 1997. I sold that for $5500 to a friend. He actually just totaled it the other day. Miss that car. It sure was beautiful. Anyways. I'm in college and don't have much money but i definitely will be modding it soon. My goal is for 300whp right now. Here's a list of parts I'm considering.

Exhaust: 3" Thermal R&D cat back(love the sound of it)
Down pipe: 3" Not 100% sure yet but something cat-delete and that doesn't taper down to 2.5" before the cat back(Any ideas???)
o2 Housing: Megan 2.5" Housing SS
Intake: Injen Short Ram
FMIC: not sure yet either on this but i don't want to do much cutting to the bumper and i'd like to keep my fogs(ideas???)
BOV: not sure again. i use to have a HKS SSQV but the sound of it got annoying(ideas???)
Turbo: either a evo3 16g or a big 16g
Injectors: RC 550's
Pump: Walboro 190 or 255
Fuel Controller: APexi SAFC
Boost controller: Simple manual one

Other things like intercooler hard piping, turbo timer and the free mods in the upgrade section will also be done.

Let me know what you think. None of this will begin for some time though because i want to drive the car for at least 2 months(warranty is 2 months) just to make sure nothing is wrong with it. Any idea how much whp i'll get with this set up?

Also I'm looking for some wheels. The style i want are 5 spoke deep dish in black with chrome or polished lip(ideas???)

Thanks!:D

Welcome back to the dsm world. DSM+college kid = Bad combo, LOL. But take care of her and she'll take care of you. I always stress this, do all your maintenance first, then worry about the mods.
Your first mods should consist of an aftermarket boost gauge, wideband, tuning device such as an safc/2, and aftermarket oil pressure gauge.
Good luck with it and have fun.

congratulations on your dsm i love dsm but mine took a ...........the other day but i made it home with the last 100 miles sounding like marbles....but good luck and do not buy a ebay turbo you will be replacing it in about 3 months like i did with blown seals on 7lbs of boost:confused:

well your setup, that you want to get is capable close to 350whp. you forgot to mention couple things:

1. using 255 fuel pump, you deff need to get AFPR (Air fuel pressure regulator)
2. different bov Not the HKS because most of the guys well prob everyone will tell you, that you cant use one, because the bov needs to be recirculated.Or if you really want to use HKS propretly, you need to do a gm maf setup.Just get some recirculated bov.

Good Luck modding your new AWD ;) :hellyeah:

Didn't say how much psi of boost you're wanting either, but from what I read you wanted you should be well over 300. :applause:

Well If you do end up using the SSQ you can recirq with this little guy here:
eBay Motors: HKS SSQV BOV Recirculation Fitting PN 71002-XA001 (item 280301764046 end time Feb-11-09 00:51:37 PST)

It is working great for me until I go to a MAF-T setup. Congrats on the purchase too !

Thanks to all for replying!

The exhaust is amazing, just a straight pipe to a muffler and it sounds bad*ss.

Forgot to mention gauges, I've considered the AEM tru-boost controller gauge. My buddy had it for his SRT and its just damn convenient but he had some problem with it i can't remember.

Trust me i don't plan on ebay for any big mods LOL as i know of the horrors. My last dsm i had an ebay exhaust on it which i gotta say for $180 it was just as good as an Apexi(minus the dings on it:p)

I don't plan on the HKS for the BOV and i do know that recirculating is a lot better than open atmosphere so maybe something along the lines as a type s or rs. The AFPR is something ill add to my list of groceries.

For some reason it's difficult to find out how much PSI the Evo3 turbo and the Big 16g hold so I'm guessing I'll be running around 18psi on the street.

True though that injen intake is the exact same as the ebay ones. I owned an ebay-injen-look-a-like and it was a bi*** to get into my car. Thing was way to long.

Any suggestions on FMIC. I like the Godspeeds because they fit perfect without cutting the bumper but the crash bar needs to be gutted a bit. They are small though.

First things first though, maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

on a big 16g you could go 23 psi,that where mines was maxed out .... i had 550,190 walboro,and maft genII 3in full turboback,93 octaine , i made 338 whp with a really good tune by Sean Ivey ;) but it wasn't enaugh,so i went a lil bigger :p

I know that many members are gonna disagree, but i would rather have a name-brand bov than a 1g. I know that the 1g is good, but i would still rather have the tight sound(but im not inferring to dump your bov). An hks can be recirculated also, and by all the stuff i have seen i know that almost 60% of the name-brand bovs are better than a 1g(modded or not). But for all reading, please dont dump your bov there is absolutely no power gains, and much performance to lose. I guess the bov is just up to the owner to choose, if he wants a better bov with sound go after-market, if he just wants a better bov than go 1g.

I love the way these things make power...effortless.

Congrats on your new buy, what a deal. Think smart, be wise before you start modding, like said before do a complete maintainence tune up and go from there.

One thing i completely forgot about is I'm looking to get a short shifter but many of the ones online fail to note how much of a reduction in throw they have so i was wondering whats the best shifter out there with a very small throw?

well whatever you need go to ExtremePsi ,They got everything you need with all the writeups about the items.Plus great costumer service ,and a great company to deal with.plus they got really low prices.....

I'm running a Greddy type R bov. I love it but it draws a little more attention from the local police (import haters) than I like. I'm thinking about porting a 1g just to reduce noise.

Be careful what short throw you get. A friend bought a B&M knock off from Ebay that trashed his transmission. If you get one spend the extra money and get a good one.

that fmic from vr speed factory, how's the installation? what kind of cutting is involved? could I keep my fogs?
