Must I pull the entire engine or is there a way to do it with it still in the engine bay? Also where can I find step by step insructions so I don't screw anything up?

I'm not trying to be mean here but if you need to ask this then maybe you should have someone else work on your car or at least someone to help you. To remove the crank and leave the engine in the car would require twice as much work as just pulling the engine out. I'm also curious as to why you want to remove the crank to begin with?

defiantly pull the engine out. you're going to have to remove the transmission anyways to get at the bolts that hold on the flywheel, so do it all at once. and I'm sure you dont want oil constantly leaking on you while your under the car trying to remove the internals.

it in fact is possible to replace the crank in the car, however i will list the major steps need in this process and hopefully it will discourage you from attempting in car. its easy to pull these motors...but here we go:

remove transmission(still wanna do it in car??)LOL
remove clutch
remove flywheel
Remove all accesory belts
remove water pump pully and ac tensioner
remove all timing covers remove timing belt
remove oil filter housing
remove front case(oil pump)
drop oil pan
remove splash cover
remove oil pickup
remove main bearing caps
unbolt all four rods
remove rear main seal
pull crank

not 100% in order or complete but should give you the general idea to just pull the damn motor

also here is a general list of parts needed

crankshaft(duh)
main bearings
rod bearings
oil pan gasket
rear main seal
oil pump gasket
crank nose seal
oil filter housing gasket

and a list of parts you should replace if you have the money

oil pump
clutch(if its not new)
flywheel(or at least have it resurfaced)
timing belt
timing belt auto tensioner
balance shaft belt or removal kit
serp belts

and some things you could get since youve already got it apart

arp main bolt set
arp rod bolts
clevite bearings
racing clutch
lightened flywheel

i guess the point im trying to make is just pull the motor...and since youve got to do ALL of this, you might as well rebuild the whole motor.... good luck

if you remove the engine, you dont have to pull the trans to do this...

yeah I figured I was going to pull the engine, I just wanted to know if it was possible to do with the engine still in. I've got all the parts and tools needed. I know I can do it, I'm just not looking forward to doing it LOL.

No, spun a rod bearing and the crank was messed up pretty good. I Have a replacement i'm putting in. I've already opened up the head and took off the oil pan, didn't see any else screwed up. I'm also replacing all internal bearings, not just the rod bearings.
