So the other morning my car slid into a curb, took it to a shop because I knew instantly it wasn't okay. From what they told me I cracked my rim, bent the drivers side control arm and sway bar link & mangled up the crossmember?

I was told for the parts used about $500 & then after labor to replace it all about $1100. Money I don't have as a broke college kid.

So my question to you all is how complicated is replacing the crossmember, I do work on my car when I have the time and if its something I could accomplish then its worth saving the money.

Also any suggestions on where to buy that part at? I've searched and searched. Can't manage to find any at all. My cars a 96 GST.

Thanks for any help guys.

I'd say you need a jack, jack stands, and a ratchet with appropriate size socket maybe 11/16 range. Looks as if there is 2 bolts on each end and the unbolt the motor mount. Undo the bolts in the ends and then the motor mount bolt.

Edit: which crossmember? I think there is 3

I'm not even sure, the car is still sitting over at the garage. I am going to go talk to them tomorrow, probably bring it home and then look at it myself. I will try and get some pictures as well.

I was looking around the internet, craigslist, ebay and I can seem to find those for the n/t but for some reason not at all for mine. Unless they happen to have another more common name.

Get it home and take some pictures. I doubt the parts will be 500, I'm thinking about 200 at the most for everything.

I know someone locally with a junk 2G I can probably get the crossmember off of for cheap, hell, someone on here might be willing to let you have one if you pay for shipping. The member is 6 bolts to remove without the motor mount on it. The other parts are fairly simple as well. Use a spare tire until you can get the money for another rim.

It might take you about four hours if you work at a decent pace.

The crossmember will be easy to fix. I assure you, that as long as you know how to take 4 bolts off and put them back on then you should be able to accomplish this/

oh ya.. crossmemeber is s snap!! you jack the motor slightly unbolt the front motor mount that is bolted to it, there should be three bolts in the back end, and two decently long (3ins or so) at the front! Make sure the Engine is jacked up high enough and is supported well! Also make sure you support it on a safe area of the motor or tranny.. i wouldn't want to see you crack or break anything.. bell housing, oil pan, ect.

the control arm is a bit more work as you have to take the wheel off, the break system and unhook the strut.. but its not too bad!!

And sway bar link... never done soo im sorry i cant advice anything on that!

good luck man and save that money

Alright, sounds good. I will get it back tomorrow and snap some pictures. If anyone does know someone or somewhere to snag that from for a decent price I am all down for paying shipping. You guys have been very helpful, I do appreciate it.
