So I had a "friend" of mine do some work on my talon for me, he was originally just supposed to do ball joints in the front and replace the lifters (car had lifter tick when i bought it). When i got the car back(after 3 months) he claims he put SIM 272's in the head with supertech valve springs/retainers. Well since i don't plan on upgrading to a large turbo and this is just a fun daily driver for me, the vibrations and loss of power at lower RPM's is not worth it. This person(derek harper) has done questionable work on many different cars and ripped quite a few people off as i have now found out after i asked him to do the work for me. So my question is, if he actually did put supertech springs in the head, would i be able to put stock cams back in without having to replace all the valve springs with stock springs? Any help would be great, thanks guys.

Also, i did quite a bit of searching but i haven't found many posts with people going from aftermarket cams to stock :(

ok thanks, thats what i thought but i wasn't sure so i figured i would get some opinions

Well to fix the cam seals the cams need to come out anyway. I would just look over the springs and such to make sure everything is fine. You shouldn't really have extra vibration from 272s as all the cams really do is move your power band. If your vacuum is fine then there shouldn't be a problem.

Wait he put SIM 272's in for free or you gave them to him to install....

i gave him 200 for the cams and paid more for the labor, he was supposed to do a bunch of other stuff and i ended up paying around $1200 for nothing to get done. I even went and talked to a lawyer to see if i could get my money back but since it was all under the table... w/e, lesson learned.

EDIT: Just an fyi, he claimed to work for SIM at the time (in kzoo, mi) but then later on told me they fired him. wonder why.. haha.

thats what i thought as well, and as dumb as it sounds i haven't even checked if they are in time. just graduated with my BSE so now i actually have some time to work on the car :)

Hmm... Trying to understand this one. Let me know if I can help with anything :)

OP, are you still in contact with the person who worked on your car (Derek Harper)?

He has scammed me in the past and I am looking for his new whereabouts, and am unable to PM at this time since my account is new.
