I'm upgrading my head this winter, the head is out getting cleaned and decked. I'm going to be upgrading the springs and valves. I'm getting the BC valves & retainers. Do I need to verify each spring pressure with a spring tester, or can I just verify the installed height is correct?

He said BCs. also, I noticed you're relatively close to me too... let me know if you need any help with anything.

Which springs will you be using?
What rpm will you set your rev limiter to?
What cams are you going to use?

Brian Crower springs & retainers
7500-8000 rpms
Stock cams for now, upgrading to Kelford or HKS 272's at a later date.

Valves and retainers, nothing stated about springs there. Maybe I should have assumed?

You should be fine just going by installed spring height. If you buy Kelford 272's you might want to check spring pressure then, but I wouldn't worry about it yet or with HKS cams.

Okay, great thanks. What determines whether you should check pressures? By the way you answered it seems like the cam is the determining factor, why is that?

Ramp rate plays a big factor in whether or not you need to upgrade springs. HKS and Kelford have a lower ramp rate while BC has a high ramp rate that is why springs are recommended with all of there cams.

I see now. So as far as checking the pressure of each spring, is it safe to assume that they are all correct straight from the manufacture? Is it worth purchasing a spring load tester to verify the pressures are what they're stated in the technical specs from BC? I think at this point I'll just verify installed height and shim if needed.
