Before I get told to search etc. I have and it seems that everyone has an easier time than I am trying to get valve springs out.

I have a conventional spring compressor, and the part that goes over the retainer is way too big. I have also taken a 5/8" socket with a 3" extension and hit it hard several times and I got two springs off, but it wakes forever. The extension keeps popping out, whether I use the cheap stuff or the Craftsman tools. Am I missing something, or is there an easier way to do this?

By the way, the heads off the car and half of my valves are bent and I have new valves springs and retainers to go in.

I am trying to get these off tonight if possible.

I got the 8 unbent exhaust keepers out by using the spring compressor with a 9/16" socket where the retainer goes as a spacer. However, the bent intake valves are a different story, I got it on there and locked down, but the keepers just will not pop out. Suggestions?

I just thought cause they are bent theres a reason the keeps are sticking. I'm just gonna tap the screw end of the compressor with a hammer and it should knock the keepers out
