Redline Water Wetter? [Merged 5-9]

Do 75/25 water/coolant or 100% water and a bottle of water wetter. Then when it starts getting cold out, buy an 88cent tester and add antifreeze until it says you're good to -10*. The absolute best coolant to run is straight water and a bottle of wetter. And yes, water wetter will lubricate the water pump.

(Funny, how a small bottle of coolant additive, that costs close to 10 bucks, now takes over the "Y-generation" market of using good ol' 50/50 water-antifreeze mix, which has been proven reliable in any sized motor for all of these years ......)

I'll stay with my 50/50 mix - don't have to fuss with it, and still protects my motors in any weather condition.

Water wetter has been proven in the racing industry. Antifreeze is not a good coolant, water in and of itself is the best coolant, the only problem is that it does not lubricate the water pump. Waterwetter adds that lubricant. Giving advice about using stock specs on a car modification site is foolish.

Water wetter is also a "surfactant". It reduces the surface tension of the water which allows it to find its way into micro-cracks and casting roughness and what not to increase the surface area the coolant has contact with which allows better cooling.

I can partially agree with DSM1G90 though. There is nothing wrong with 50/50 mix, but it's just a little less efficient. If you have cooling problems, you need to fix the problem. Water wetter isn't going to stop overheating if somethings not working right. It might give you a little more time until you actually overheat, but it's not going to fix the problem.

Regardless of what you temp gauge reads, in theory it should cool the head/block better by helping the heat get away from the motor and into the coolant where it can be pissed into the atmosphere via the radiator.

Why not just run 50/50 Antifreeze ,

Do not run faucet water. it will eat through aluminum , so run purified water .

Why not just run 50/50 Antifreeze ,

Because water wetter an/or higher percentages of water vs. antifreeze cool a bit better

Do not run fosset water. it will eat threw aluminum , so run purified water .

Faucet water leaves build up from impurities such as minerals and stuff in the water. Purified water is better, but faucet water will not eat through aluminum. Antifreeze is a corrosion inhibitor, and not running any at all with out something to prevent the corrosion will eat through aluminum.

I personally dropped 10+*f all around when I switched from 50/50 to 100% distilled + WW. I just have to remember to get some coolant in there before it starts getting damn cold again.

Yet, on a side topic: I used to own a 1982 Dodge Colt with the TwinStick and the larger 1.6L 4G32B motor. The TwinStick concept worked very well if you knew how to shift when the torque range was right and which combination of gears to use...

Let's keep on having fun on this site - what it was designed for in the first place.

I had an 84 colt turbo "gts" with the twinstick I picked it up for $150 with around 45k on it in near mint condition all it needed was a clutch. That car was one of if not the funnest car I've ever owned. I eventually got owned by rust on the undercarriage and literally split the car in half hitting second gear LOL.
