I want to know if this Spyder GST with a 4g64 is worth putting money into? I read i only has 141 HP and i dont see too many parts for it.

Also is the GST suspension different then the GS?
And if i turbo it will it be faster thn the 2.0DOHC?

I've never heard of a GST with a 4g64. Even then, why would you swap out a 4g63, for a 4g64 out of a Spyder.

I know it was swapped in there. Im wondering if i can make it push some HP.
If it has a larger displacement then the regular 2.0L wouldent it push more HP?

(those 16v SOHC heads have a lot of components crammed in that small area - makes you wonder if that head's gonna explode with that one cam running all of them valves...)

4G64's came with more torque due to the lengthened stroke and slightly larger bore (making it an "undersquare" motor with stroke longer than the bore) due to the heavier chassis being almost 3000LBS. Gotta have the stroke to move all of that metal from a stop.

If a 4G64 came with a DOHC head, prob will have 20 more hp due to separate valve timing and the available overlaps - which is the main difference factor between SOHC and DOHC assemblies.

Sorry "chipmunk" - can't get hardly more "nutmeat" out of a 4G64 the way it stands. the new 2012 Galants still runs the 4G64 motor..

With some forged internals it will handle quite a bit of power. The stock pistons are pretty weak in those. The stock 2.0 turbo engine will handle a good deal more power than the 2.4. The 2.4 won't won't necessarily make more power than the 2.0, but it will make better power in the lower rpm's.

Personally, I don't set it worth your time to dump money into a 4g64. However, it's your car do with it as your please. If I were you I would just put money into making it decent looking and maintenance.

Well im thinking after turbo and exhaust i should be in the 250 range which would be a decent start

Don't forget a fuel solution. You'll be adding air, so you'll need more fuel. You'll need a management device to either piggyback or standalone.

..more like 175 to 200 due to the higher compression making a call for very low boost (and overhauling the electronics from the ECU, et.al..).. and you'd have to overhaul the motor with stronger components to handle that boost, or something inside is gonna give due to the motor wasn't designed for such high performance upgrades.

Easy way out would be to sell it and find an actual GST Spyder...

^This, like I said before, you're just wasting your time and money. Unless you run LOW boost, you will start to destroy things with time. Make the car more reliable and easy to look at. Call it a day.

well the 4g63 revs higher, but the 4g64 can produce more tourqe in higher hp applications, so it just kinda depends on what ya want, but 4g64 have weaker rods, so i would swap those out at least if your going to go big hp

Ignore all the haters, you CAN make some good gains out of the 4g64 but it will will require more work. If your car is anything like Curt's spyder you could be around 212 hp, 240 tq. Check this dyno link out : http://www.4g64.150m.com/dyno032903.jpg

Curt and the other guys on there are pretty quick to responding to questions and helping you out. Hell they help me out a lot. Bottom line is you don't need to sell your car to make some good power. It really all depends on what your goals are.

Wow LOL get some forged internals, swap a 4g63 head on the block. Swap the wiring harness, get a 98/99 flashable ecu and call it a day. I actually have a 4g64 in my gst. Google the swap, its very easy. Plug a few holes on the deck of the block and you basically have a 4g63, everything is still the same but you have to use a 4g64 timing belt and 64 timing gears (or aftermarket).

one question, does anyone know if they have the same mounts? could they use the same tranny? just curious:p

Yes same mounts and you can use a 4g64 transmission but the gear ratios are different. My cousin needed a transmission to sell a gst so he called up a junk yard and got one out of a 5 speed galant which also uses the same 4g64 block as the spyder during those years. Essentially everything is the same minus the head, wiring harness, ecu, timing belt etc .. well besides the internals and turbo factor LOL

if it is a gst spyder why not just swap the 4g63 engine in it?

If it was a GST spyder then it would already have a 4g63 in it.

o ok, im guessing the 4g64 tranny wont take as much power as the 4g63 does it?

Sounds about right LOL I would just get some forged internals in the classifieds and a 63 head and go from there. Its a pretty easy swap! Eve better if you have a 98/99 spyder with a black plastic case ecu because they are flashable as well and will work once the fuel pump relay is modified to the ecu.
