my brother boght a 96 eclipse gsx awd automatic. the motor mounts seemed to be going bad after awile so we decided to replace the front and rear mounts first before messing with the side ones. i replaced the lower front with no problem, the back rear mount only had 1 blt holding it to the transmission. i figure the other 2 bolts must have falling out somehow from the mount being bad and the motor moving around alot. i bolted the new rear mount to the subframe and then tried placeing the rear braket on the mount. the braket fits on the mount but it wont line up with the holes where it mounts onto the transmission. Thats why the previous owner only installed one bolt. if i move the braket( with it attached to the mount) toward the passenger side, i can get it to line p with one hole. I am twisting the braket on the mount and i know its not supposed to be that way. my quetion is, are there 2 difrent rear motor mounts and 2 diferent brakets that the car could have came with? Can anyone help me? i can try to post pics if need be.

I had the same problem when I did my rear mount. I believe the way I did it was I put the bolt going through the mount first that way i was able to move it slightly and then adjusted it one bolt at a time. Keep the bolts to the tranny and sub frame loose til they line up. Its hard for me to recall since it was 2 years ago but i think thats how i did. Plus i did it through the top of the the engine and not the bottom,it was a lot easier for me. Just had to play with it a bit. My car was a 2g n/t but i dont think that makes a difference. To add i doubt theres 2 different mounts.

Aren't the front and rear mounts different depending on if you have FWD or AWD?

yes they are. It was not a problem with the wrong mounts it was engine alignment issue. the side mount closest to the timing blt was corroded all the way through to the point where it was not holding anything up so the engine was sitting leaning to the right after he bought new mounts all the way around there was no issue and everything went together fine

The front roll stop is the same for all 2Gs with the same style transmission - all auto cars use the same front roll stop and all manual cars use the same (but different from the auto) roll stop.

The rear roll stop is only common across 4G6# models. Again, the auto roll stop is different than the manual roll stop but a rear roll stop from an automatic Spyder would fit an automatic GSX, for example.

The D31A models (vehicles with the 420A) only share the rear roll stop in common with other 420A-equipped models.

Well I have the 420a MT and I accidentally ordered gsx mounts and I used the front and rear mounts. Not saying it's right but I did order it from ebay, maybe the just messed up the order
