In my 99 factory Mitsubishi service manual it shows a "lower arm cover" (for vehicles with aero parts) on the rear lower arm assembly (item 1 in attached pic). My 99GST does not have this nor is it listed in the Mitsu ASA parts db (nor have I ever heard of it). Since my 99GST has factory aero parts (eg. side air dam MR248254) why don't I have this? Does anyone know it's Mitsu part number or shed any light about it like what vehicles have it, etc?

It shows up in the Euro version of ASA and appears unique to the 2G GST.

FWIW, I also have a '99 GST with factory aero and I don't have that cover either. I wonder what it's function is? Maybe reduce lift under the rear?

A cover won't do anything to prevent rust. I've never seen this cover on any US car. Having not seen any Japanese or european versions I couldn't speak for those. I have heard people ask about it but with no real answers as to why it's there or which cars have it.

Maybe its used for underbody "aerodynamics" to create less drag. I work on cars and I see every european car with some sort of shield or cover on just about everything you can imagine under the car.

Just my .02
