2G Rear awd castle nut romoval from rusty axle.

my rear castle nuts on the axles are crusty, they are at the point that the retaining pins have disintegrated. but everything else looks good. how would i go about removing these. i am sure this is something that many of the members from the north have had to deal with before.

Indeed we have especially on the roads of N.Y.S crappy ass salt during the winters they use. Well if you or someone you know has access to air tools make sure you get a 6 point socket on it and zip it off of there. Pre lube it will some wd-40 or something. If you don't have access to that then get a torch and warm that baby up to a nice cherry red and put your socket on there 1/2" drive use a big breaker bar and it should loosen right up.

i was thinking of doing that but the remainder of the retaining pin looks like it might get in the way..
what i was thinking is to drill out what ever remains of the retaining pin, then heat it up and remove.
one thing that has me worried is do you guys think i will ruin anything by heating up the castle nut.

It will not ruin anything heating it up. You could drill out what's left of the retaining pin not a bad idea.
