Real OEM oil/water pump vs. fake aftermarket

How can I tell the difference between the two? I know that there are many companies that reproduce stuff like like and they look exactly the same. I'm pretty sure the OEM has some markings that will tell it different from the rest. I mean after all you are paying a lot more for OEM quality and if you don't know what to look for, you can get ripped off! Thnaks for the help

Odds are if its not coming from a mitsu dealership its aftermarket by somebody. Also alot of companies re-man oem so an oem housing doesnt necessary mean oem if its not really new.

Just get a gates if your looking for a water pump.. Oil pump is best to get it from the dealer. You can get just the gears and open up the front case and put them in if your trying to get it cheaper.

Pick up a GMB water pump,same as oem mitsu but way cheaper like $52

I bought an autozone Duralast waterpump the other week ($43). Lifetime warranty and they're easy to pull out or put in unlike the oilpump (which is a pain in the ass to put in and i bought this oem from the dealer).

I called my local Mitsu dealer and they said they don't carry the oil pump/front cover for the 6 bolts anymore. They have the water pump but it's $160. I looked around and MAP and JNZ has what I believe the lowest priced OEM stuff. OEM water pumps at $130 and OEM oil pumps at $300. I know some people prefer the OEM stuff over the aftermarket, I'm one of them. Did anybody ever compare the two?

"Fake" is a poor adjective. Afterall, it's still a real, usable water pump, even if it isn't OEM...

The aftermarket 4G water pumps are fine. I've never used an OEM one before, and all of the various aftermarket pumps have performed perfectly for me. Before Federal Mogul discontinued their 4G63 water pump, I was buying those up for $15. Never had an issue with one either.
