Real or Fake?

Fake. A turbocharger doesn't need a tag on it saying "TURBOCHARGER" to let us know that it's a turbocharger...You can identify a real 16G by it's serial number on the compressor housing that starts with 49178-0____

No, the last one is a real MHI, but it's from an Evo8, which means that it's mounted the opposite way from the DSM-style turbos. So it won't work on your manifold and exhaust without extensive modifications.

The first two are fake. But like I said earlier, I wouldn't bother with the Evo VIII turbo since it would require extensive modifications.

Ebay has some pretty good deals on genuine MHI Evo 3 turbos. I got a brand new one for $350 from some guy that changed directions on his build. That was truly a steal though. Used ones cost around the same or maybe less. Just make sure it's the real deal though. The real ones look like this http://store.forcedperformance.net/...duct_Code=49178-01470&Category_Code=DSM-Turbo. It'll say tdo5h on the compressor housing and have a different serial code than the knock-offs.

Woooow. Some companies. The sad thing is : These are actually bought by individuals who don't take the time to check them and 2 months later (if that) they're blown.

Now think about this.. Why would a turbo say DSM Evo III 16g.. Thats just silly. Assuming it was only made for one application. Its fake as hell broski.

And you will want to learn more about your car before you even think about doing a turbo upgrade.. n00b

On the topic of turbos.. JEGS High Performance - 555-110900

Will this work for the for the water supply line or oil line? I have about 4 foot of this and don't know what to do with it.

it says it's ok with oil, gas, alcohol and lubricants but says "Not for use with brake fluid, as vacuum line or in extreme heat situations."

Look up extreme psi. Thats where I buy all my stuff they are good guys and always ship out everything fast. I buy everything from them that way I know it's not fake. The only thing on my car from ebay / a knock off is the intercooler. It works perfect though so I can't complain because it was cheap.

This is a real MHI turbo.

haha Im right there with you bro, I have been using a ebay intercooler for 2 years now, and it works GREAT! I only paid $30...I couldnt be happier LOL

sometimes there is no way to tell on the outside of the turbo. Most of the turbos going in for rebuild have metal flakes or sludge blocking off the oil pressure. its not always easy to find a good 16g, because some of the turbos come off cars with blown motors, then they people sell them thinking they are good turbos, and they end up smoking because they have sludge or metal shavings blocking off the oil. search classifieds and craiglists, is a good place to find 16gs, but ask 1st if it came off a blown motor
