im on the market to get a new HKS BOV just to try something new since ive ran my greddy type s for two years now im bored haha.

well i got on ebay just to see what they got and i came across these just dont know how to tell a real one from a fake.

now i know the odds of these been real is poor judging by the price. but does anyone know for sure how to spot a fake?

HKS UNIVERSAL BLOW OFF VALVE BOV SQV SSQV BLACK LIMITED - eBay (item 170592431279 end time Jan-19-11 14:00:00 PST)

I would stay away. Both seller don't have any feedback as sellers. If it's too good to be true, than it is.

yeah ive been looking at classifieds and found some local REAL hks for about 130 ... i just liked the other ones cause they are black and go perfect with engine bay.
it really sux that these people are getting away with making identical copies with logos and everything and not getting punished.

IMO HKS is junk for the BOVs. They don't sound great and don't seem to function too well either. If you are going to be venting (properly) then get yourself a TiAL Q from one of the supporting vendors.

Because HKS is located in Singapore. Fake. I mean seriously. The guy has 5 feedback and most of those are books.

Are you high Liquidx? I think this is the first I would ever have to disagree with you.

SSQVs sound ridiculously sexy vent or recirculated. And they Are rated to hold to like 50psi. Personally I have seen one on an Evo VII running an FP Turbo boosting to 32 psi.

HKS have been known to not vent properly causing compressor surge, that is why they are on their 3rd revision. The Synchronic one is much better off for a piston style.

why get rid of the type s i had one on my wrx i ran for 2 years pushing 20-22psi with no issues?

every type s i had leaked (proven with a blt) some worse than others but if you want to run them vented be prepared to have to deal with that. I must admit i have never owned a brand new on though. I personally think the design is flawed from the get go too many ways they leak. I had one of the 3 i've owned that would push open at 30 psi during the blt. now as boost builds with type s the piston gets forced open. in the case of ssqv the more boost the harder it pushes the mechanism shut. i just changed too the ssqv so we'll see how it goes

go with the RFL bov its killer

Honestly, I wouldn't take the chance on anything ebay other than a cold air intake or maybe some vacuum hose or other cut to fit type items.

The ebay clutches hold up pretty good though. The XTD brand. The guy that got me into DSMs has one on his 2.3 stroker and its been going strong for 30,000 plus.

+1 even though I'm n/a. Installed an XTD Stage 3 about 10,000 miles ago with absolutely no problems.

Has anyone even done any studies on if flutter is bad? A cheap BOV would be the mk2 MR2 BPV (as they call it.) More boost thrown at them the tighter they hold, and they respond quicker than anything else. I got mine for like $30.

I wish I had the means to research this by experimentation. In my own crazy theory it seems to me that the pressure in the piping gets low enough for the BOV to close and then pressure builds up once again. I don't see it being a problem and I've only ever heard it on people's cars when they are barely boosting. To mention the MR2 BOV I had would queef in partial throttle conditions, which was quite funny. I don't know if flutter and a queef could be related, though.
