real mitsubishi turbo?

So i got a guy thats going to sell me a big 16g mitsubishi turbo.
I was just wondering how to tell if its a real mitsubishi motors turbo.
The guy says its real but i dont know.

Hes selling it to me for $300 brand new, he says he gets parts from a wholeseller but im kinda sketchy.

He says the turbo retail price is $1749.00 but actual retail for it is $700.00

So is there anyway to tell if the turbos real or not?

Most vendors sell then for around the $500-600 mark, depending on what options it has with it. If you do a search on here for "ebay 16g" you'll find plenty of posts with pictures of the knock-off turbo, along with a few pics of the real thing. If it is genuine, it'll say TD05H on the compressor housing. The wastegate actuator arm won't be adjustable. There are a few other differences.

ha thats exactly what i was thinking, i didnt wanna call him out on it cause 300.00 is a hell of a deal if it is real. It just seems to good to be true though.

Would whole sell for a turbo be anywhere close to 300?

And yea il check the compressor housing.

x2. The guy is most likely bsing you. Also most eBay turbos are sold as "big 16g" instead of evo316g. Make sure you buy it from somewhere that is trustworthy.

a real 16g has td05 on the compressor housing and a mitsubishi symbol on it i just forgot on what part the turbo i think the turbine side

Depending if its a BIG 16g small 16g or the EIII.. and I have yet to see the diamonds on one but could be... Search "what turbo is this" and theres 20+ pages of part numbers or just PM jusmx141 give him the part number and he'll tell you if its legit hes the turbo wiseman and rebuilds turbos for a living

If its a genuine mitsu turbo it will say on the housing in big letters TD-05 and then a serial number that is the same on all td-05's but they all have different numbers in ( ) which identify them.

Now if it says evo3 on it in a little square on the turbo then its a knockoff. Genuine mitsu turbo doesn't say, evo3, small or big 16 on the compressor housing.

Here are the part numbers for the 16g turbos.

My 16g had tdo5h on the compressor housing and the mitsu diamonds on the exhaust side, not sure what kind of turbo it is for sure but the person i got the car from side is was a evo3 big 16g, ill check the numbers when i get back from work

Quick visual guide:

Adjustable wastegate actuator arm/says "evoIII" or "dsm" on it, real oem turbochargers have neither.

You will no it is fake if it tells you it is a turbocharger... It will say on the cold side evo 3 turbocharger...... Real ones just have numbers on then

It looks like a cheaper knock off 20g. See the "o" dot on the compressor housing in the casting? Ive never seen one of those on a MHI

Thats an evo 8 turbo. Wont work at all. its reverse rotation turbo. wont bolt on

It looks like a knockoff of a 16g flipped to face down, couldn't be a 20g as a 20g doesnt have mounting slots on the end of the compressor mouth to bolts through unless it was a bastard 20g which i highly doubt.
Also it doesn't seem as if the turbo were reverse rotation, it looks more like the camera reversed the whole image, probably a phone camera.
I say save up an extra $600, play it safe, and buy a real 16g.

Total bill: Over $1700.

Evo VIII or IX twin-scroll turbo, for sure.

Good luck getting that thing to work on a DSM. The reverse rotation isn't something you'll want with your exhaust and intake plumbed the way it is from the factory. One guy has gone as far as to use the manifold and turbine housing from an Evo X turbo coupled to a TD06SL2 20G center housing to build his own monster- this should give you an idea of the amount of work needed to make one of these turbos work on a DSM:

Yes, total installed. We all know how the dealer likes to stretch out jobs like this when the labor rate is $100/hr+. They also change every little gasket and bolt knowing they'll profit 100% from each item they install.

Im willing to bet you a new oem evo VIII turbo from a dealership would be pretty close to that.For reference, a oem cat for our cars costs like 700 bucks.Do you think something like a turbo would be less than 1500? I doubt it. Either way, its not what the original poster needs so who cares.

You're correct- I forget that the dealer Nazis sell every turbocharger with a giant jar of Vaseline for the ass-reaming they give you on the price.

Evo VIII 16G: Dealer / MSRP $1749.14 ; JNZ Price $1355.58.

The same money would buy you an Evo Red from FP....but again, we're not working on Evos here who who cares.
